Leicester City (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I thought attacking wise we were a bit better v Everton as well

And yeah it just seems too easy to bypass our midfield and suddenly the defence is in panic mode and on the backfoot

Hopefully this is the first issue that’s addressed in the window.. maybe even before West Ham
The narrow zonal defence is the problem, but it’s because we don’t have midfielders tracking runners.

If we matched up one on one at the back, our full backs would be pulled wide and runners would have acres to run into.

It’s not one problem, it’s one problem that helps create others, for which we are ill-equipped. Couple that with an ever-changing back four and we have been very porous.

Got back at 19.15hrs.
Firstly let me applaud the away end today. We were fucking immense and Never stopped singing. No shit half and half scarves, no tourists proper fans getting the tickets is how it should be.
Thought we controlled the game for long periods and looked better. Green shoots of recovery hopefully.
Massive word for Mcatee. Looked superb when he came on. Made things happen. Get him on the pitch moving forward. Haaland a lot better. Totally different player after the goal. We are still shaky defensiveley and my concern was how easy Leicester cut through us when they attacked. We miss Dias for his leadership for sure. Hopefully a few Jan signings in midfield will help to resolve matters.
Foden is a worry. Very poor today. Lets hope he gets back to how we know he can be.
See you at West Ham.

The away support was superb from my sofa in Oz, worked really hard for the 3 points dragging an exhausted team over the line. Subs were good, Walker looked fitter than he has been & delighted for Mcatee.

The concern for me was the pressing, Foden looks off the pace like we’ve seen & Savio poor out of possession.

Not sure how we’ll get the press fixed with injuries etc

A win is win

Luck was on side those balls hitting the frame could have gone in on another day but 3 points will do world of good for mentality and boost for upcoming matches
About time City got the rub of the green.
We've had some awful luck this season.
Haaland was a lot more involved in the match today, forcing himself into it. Hope he continues in that vein.
Mcatee was a great sub, skilful and full of positive running.
Savinho broke his duck scoring wise and hopefully will score a few more now.
Very pleased with the win and we can get a bit of a run going now.

The big problem is without Rodri we haven't got one player that can stay with runner's from midfield. How often do we get caught out 4v3, 3v2 or worse?

It's the major problem that needs addressing in January.

Pep seemed to tweak a bit today. We seemed to relinquish possession a bit more and defend a bit deeper. Don’t think we had anyway near as much possession as usual today which made the match feel a little bit more tense to watch than it actually was as we’re not used to not having the ball all the time. We had a bit of luck but it worked. All the negativity in the post match thread is mostly hyperboil by fans who are not used to a bad run and are struggling to understand it in football terms. It’s normal for any team. What we have done over the last years is definitely not normal. The turning point for me is the 4 on 2 attack by Everton which they messed up.

It's a very welcome 3 points but defensively we were poor again, not just the back 4 but most of the team. The 2nd goal was against the run of play, (a really good goal though) and I thought we looked knackered at that point but we had lady luck with us today for a change.
Absolutely, and I think if Leicester were not also in a bit of a state they would have asked more questions and got at least a point. The way we are now though, a win is a win and hopefully will give us back some confidence and belief - this is essentially the same group of players that were good enough to win 4 titles and a CL.

I wonder why it suddenly clicked from Pep today ti give Mcatee a chance. I think he's that pissed off with several first team players at present and thought what we're all thinking, and that is that he couldn't do any worse
I think it was Hail Mary because we were abysmal in the second half, continuing very poor ending to the FH, barely had 30% possession and Rico was overrun on the right side. McAtee managed to push further up on the touchline keeping them deeper and Kyle was actually ok. I noticed people were despondent when Pep switched from sending JSP for Ake to Kyle, but it actually worked.
I didn't see any green shoots of recovery and I think any eleven Pep put on the pitch are spent force both physically and mentally.

Clean sheet and three points.
Team spirit looks strong.

I’ll take that

This all day long, we just needed the win first and foremost. Then hopefully we will get a little of our confidence as a team back.

That was the proverbial Christmas log that we needed to clear out of our system.

Our problems are there for all to see. We're tired, we're defensively questionable. But we have heart.

Not that different to everton performance-wise, just that Leicester didn't hit the target with their chances.

Today was the first time watched McAtee in the first team and thought he could offer something useful. Not the skill for the goal, we all know he has that, but the intelligence, application and awareness. It was impressive and the kind of impact you'd expect from a seasoned pro.

Nearly a week off now, chance to get some new blood in. I fully expect at least one centre back and one midfielder. If we can get that spine back then we can kick on for top 4. Title clearly gone barring all but the most hilarious of brain farts from the dips.

Hopefully a smile or two tomorrow as well if that lot keep up their form too.

Agreed. We needed to get a win back on the board and we did that. It wasn't vintage City, but a few things went our way, that haven't recently. We've now got a good amount of rest before West Ham, and hopefully can kick start the New Year with some momentum.

I'm not getting carried away but there a few positives today. Foden getting a shot away that was more like him in form.
The resultant first goal for Savinio and his assist. Lovely bit of skill by Mcatee which lead to the piece of City play in weeks. What I liked as well was Mcatee's positioning when Harlaand headed it in. Right around the penalty spot The amount of times this season we've needed someone there for a half clearance or when the ball has been crossed behind Harlaand.
The support was absolutely brilliant today and played a huge part in getting the lads over the line for the win.

History is written by the winners so ultimately we'll forget Gvardiol's soft back header (plus De Bruyne's suicidal backpass v Forest) whilst forever blaming Nunes for the derby defeat.

Harsh, but regardless of the result, we seem to gift the opposition in every game.

Have to disagree with your Savinho comment. I think he’s very active on defence. The “problem” is often that he is overloaded on his side and has to make a choice on the coverage. That means he often has to drop further back defensively, resulting in the out ball being on his side. However, that’s the better option than leaving the open man…and space…in behind him.
