Running thread

At least the "B" course is mud free, but the 2 trips up the slope from the river and the right corners zig-zagging across the park are hard work!
I enjoyed the B course, and the two uphills are only short, so not too bad there. Left turns put a strain on my left hip, and I have to take those easy. Both courses are a nice run though, with 2km alongside the beautiful River Irwell, the rest through trees and nice parkland.

Edit. And it's easy to get to at 8:30am.

I am scheduled to do a full marathon in March. I have an injury to the side of my foot. I’m thinking it could be Peronial Tendinopathy. I can still run but there is a dull ache on the side of my foot. Does anyone have any advice/experience on whether I would be ok running the race or would you recommend I postpone it? I will try and get it looked at in January but assume the medical advice from a specialist would be not to run with it.

Ran an easy paced half-marathon today to complete 2,000km in 2024!

Can’t wait to try and beat that in 2025.
I’m running a half marathon tomorrow to complete 1000 miles for this year, considering I had some medical issues during the year I’m ecstatic about achieving it as it was my goal all along.

Going for 2000 next year as decided to scrap the car and run the 3.5 miles to work and back each day next year.

Happy new year to all and good luck with whatever running challenges you set yourselves next year.

HNY mate, good luck with the half tomorrow no doubt you'll crack it..
Once you get going with the run to work and back you won't regret it, I sold my van about a month ago as I rarely use it and either run or bike to work, driving in Manc nowadays is a joke anyways, costs a stack to keep a car on the road, the roads are full of dickheads and holes,,and it takes half an hour to go about 3 miles anywhere with daft traffic.

Really gone off the rails December, no running and getting smashed loads.

New year now, new start and serious focus for Brighton Marathon in April

Yep same here. Ballooned over Christmas and now carrying an extra 5 pounds of timber.

Really focused this year but the body seems a bit fragile, so hoping injuries don’t hinder my progress.

Happy new year everyone. Wishing you all a great year of running. No doubt many will have goals for the year, so good luck to anyone aiming for PBs, to complete a certain distance of run or just wanting to enjoy running injury free.

For any lurkers on the thread thinking of giving running a go, just do it, it’s something you will never regret.

Loads of advice on here, and any questions post them
As someone, at one point in time, will have no doubt wondered the same thing.

Good luck and keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Was hoping to smash the miles in January given that the gym will be swamped with new comers. I pulled my calf the other day so that's a great start!
I ve just cut my evening training short, went home, and put some ice on my right knee (first time right knee. dont think it will be a problem, but i never risk knee pains). What a great start to the new year:)) But honestly, I've been dealing with injuries for a month now. After 1-2 good performances on races, the injuries started in December—must be bad luck. First, it was my lower back, then my mid-back (they are still there). Then I injured my shoulder while swimming. I haven’t been able to swim for 2 weeks; I’ve been focusing on recovering my shoulder, and tomorrow I’ll try to swim for the first time since. hope my shoulder is better.

I’m 45, and I pay attention to everything since i really train hard. I count my protein intake—over 120 grams a day. I also take supplements (MSM, etc.), but I guess it’s not enough. I don’t eat red or white meat (that is a big issue); I rely on fish, eggs, and dairy. But I think I might be lacking collagen or something else for my joints. Tomorrow, for the first time in my life, I’ll visit a supplement store. :))))

I have been taking hux tablets (a water supplement) and noticed a big improvement to recovery. The tablets restore salts and reduce inflammation. They aren't cheap but they work, I have off set the cost but reducing my booze in take.

Same here, last run 25/11. Hoping to do parkrun on Saturday.

I'm up to running four times a week, aiming for 200k in January. I'm doing the Malta marathon in February. My training is a little behind schedule, need to get rid of a cold and about a stone in weight. Dry January starts today..
i wanna try a dry 2025, which actually i am capable :))) I often go without drinking alcohol for 2-3 months, as an alcoholic. But after races, especially if I run well, I definitely end up drinking in the social atmosphere.
