Running thread

Sat at home desperate to get out but it’s still chucking it down and windy down here. Ran Thursday in the snow, Tuesday (run club) when it was freezing cold, not sure I want the treble of being soaking wet through and blown around like a rag doll.

Did a 10km road run 2 weeks ago, in an effort to get ready to do a 10k race to use up an entry for a pal who was injured. Instead ended up injuring myself by getting a sore knee when running downhill at about 7km.

Bit gutted, physio session hasn’t really helped, other than lightening my walllet. Her main advice was I need to strengthen my core/do Pilates, which I don’t disagree with, but doesn’t help with my immediate knee problem.

Swimming still ok to do, but been out walking today and can still feel the knee - pain behind the kneecap, which I’ve never had before. Will try some cycling this week to see if that’s ok. I could cope with running less, but to only be able to swim would drive me bananas as I’m not the greatest fan of it really. Even once a week is a struggle.

cheers from istanbul. i am back on track... today's race...

check my shirt :) (oasis) (3rd in age group +45) 8k (actually it was not. it was shorter... another story) 31:20 something.. cheers.

Ah I had a subpar physio at first too, helps to get a physio who knows running, the first guy I saw in Bury was rubbish in all honesty. Eventually bit the bullet and went to a different one who was well recommended in Barnsley, he knew what was going on with my knee straight away, regretted not going sooner.

Thanks for posting that. Yes, I think I will try a different one; I do know of two others, one of whom is linked to our local running club. Even though it will cost, it might still be worth a go bearing in mind that going via my GP to see an NHS specialist you’re looking at a 2 year wait, and going private to see a specialist is a couple of hundred pounds I think.

After reading your post, think I’m gonna exhaust the possibilities with these other 2 physios first.

Valencia marathon tomorrow, have been wiped out for two weeks with a virus and not been able to run, have done three runs in Valencia and not felt great at all, gutted as I have been building up to this all year as a sub3 attempt, will run tomorrow and hopefully make it round

Good luck tomorrow mate. If nothing else the pressure is off a bit so just make sure you enjoy it.

Trail half tomorrow. Nice and easy and then we go again next year.

All the Parkruns I normally frequent in Manchester were cancelled this morning because of a slight breeze, so I did a training run around Castlefield involving 4 laps of the Science & Industry Museum and Factory International.
On lap 1 I passed Kevin Sinfield and his entourage on the Media City to Saddleworth leg of his ultra marathon challenge for MND.
I gave him a wave and a cheer & made sure I donated to his charity on my return.

hello manchester,
disqualified in my first orienteering race sultanahmet istanbul :))) i misunderstood a part :))) target 8 and 9 was so close to each other, mis checked them, i was not knowing that we should also control the numbers on the detectors. anyway... so much fun...
