Premier League Games 4/5/6 January 2025

Well that’s inconsistent!Since when has the position of the arm ever come into it,if a goal has been scored as a result if the touch?!F’kin making it up to suit!No chance we’d have kept that goal…

Bored shirtless with players rolling around the floor. Does anyone run an injury off any more?

The handball deflection led to the goal. I’ve got no idea what the rule is. I’ll leave it to the experts on here!
I've just checked, its only if the scorer is the same person who handled it, as AH Tash says earlier.

But tbh, who knows what the fuck the rule is these days

The rule is basically if the goal is scored almost immediately after the handball. Say directly into goal from the hand, or an assist shortly followed by the goal. Seeing as Gordon travelled 15-20 yards before he scored, that's not immediate enough.

To be handball there, it had to be in an unnatural position or obviously deliberate.

It’s only chalked off if he directly assists the goal (there was another pass after the ball hit his hand) or goes straight in the net off his hand.

This is why I mentioned the commentator chatting nonsense. This take is wrong. An accidental handball in the run up to the goal, not made by the scorer, will not effect the outcome of the goal and it would be allowed.

He was saying what the rule was last year wasn’t he rather than what it is now?

Joelinton gets away with a lot. Seem to remember our game against them and there was amazement how he seemed to escape getting a yellow as he was constantly fouling - like he is today.

Karma for the Llorente goal in the CL a few years ago!
By the LOTG, Llorente’s was not handball.

It hit his arm and then his thigh and went in. It didn’t go straight in the net off the arm.

Even though the ref said some weird stuff about it afterwards, it was legitimately a goal.

thats not right, although that was also my understanding, current version of the rules is if its scored by the player who "handballs"

HANDLING THE BALL

For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit. Not every touch of a player’s hand/arm with the ball is an offence.

It is an offence if a player:

  • deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball
  • touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised
  • scores in the opponents' goal:
    • directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper
    • immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental
from the FA site

Ref has lost control- these 2 are going to kick 7 bells out of each other.
