That's pretty shocking that someone of your age had to justify why you'd want a PSA test. As I understand it, anyone over 50 can ask for it and as the risk increases the older we get then someone over 65 shouldn't have to explain why they'd want one. They should be offering it to people of that age every couple of years at least.
As it happens, I'm 54 and asked for one before Christmas because for the past couple of months or so I've been peeing 2, 3, or 4 times during the night most nights. Had the rectal examination on December 20th and the GP said my prostate didn't feel enlarged but recommended doing a urine test and a blood test. It's only since then that I've discovered that an enlarged prostate isn't actually a sign of prostate cancer and there was me thinking I was in the clear when he said it wasn't enlarged! Anyway, dropped my urine sample off on 23rd December and had my bloods taken on the 30th. On the 31st - just a day after my bloods were taken - I got a text off the GP saying they'd had the results back and want to discuss them with me so I should make an appointment within the next two weeks. That text landed about half an hour before I went out on New Year's Eve ffs! So I'm booked in for an appointment on Friday afternoon. I've no idea if they've found something and I'm surprised if they got my blood test results back just a day after they were taken so it could be that the text I got is linked to the urine sample I gave a week earlier. Of course, by the time I see them on Friday they will definitely have had the bloods back as well.
