Bit dense of him to take on the shot when we were dominating the ball at the end. This gave them a goal kick which led to Brentford's equaliser.
I know he wants to impress Pep but that was a rookie mistake.

Gvardiol heading the ball straight out wide to their winger who crossed it in led to the goal more than McAtees shot leading to a goal kick.

Nothing wrong with having a shot there in a good position.
If he didn't shoot and ended up losing the ball and then they scored, the same people would have been moaning he didn't shoot to finish the game
Shit shot though.
I agree. He’s dammed on here either way. If he didn’t shoot and passed it instead, he’d get criticised. It’s now unforgivable for some on here that a player coming on at 87 minutes didn’t score, with one of his first touches.

You even had one poster on here blaming him for the goal… nothing to do with the entire midfield and defence collapsing or nunes missing a great chance or savinho not passing it.

Simply got to score that chance. He's got as much time as he wants to pick his spot and it's not even on target. Really poor.

Those are the chances that make or break a young players career. That's the game winner right there, another telling contribution if he finishes it off and more ammunition to be pushing for minutes. as is, it's a costly miss and you're looking back thinking foden scores his hattrick there if he wasn't subbed off.
This is such a shit take. The guy came on with five minutes to spare; much of our senior players have spurned several chances like that this season.

If that is what makes or breaks him, then he was doomed from the start.

If I was Mcatee I'd look elsewhere for game time, what more does he have to do to be rewarded with a start ?,,,come on changed the game v Leicester, scores a Hatrick in his next game , yet pep still plays players ,ie Bernardo that have done exactly fuk all for most of the season and up till he scored you can add foden to that .
I personally don't see the point in these lads if there never going to be given a serious chance (a run of fking games pep) to see if they've got it or not!!

What an embarrassing statement. So Goal kick led to their goal and it’s a fault of McAtee unbelievable nonsense. What next ? McAtee named as sub led to goal?
It was clear that we were able to pen them back in their own third and shithouse our way to the win but James naively went for glory.
This started a chain of events that led to their equaliser and so much panic that we nearly actually lost all 3 points.
Of course other players fucked up too but they didn't need to be put in that position.
We are Manchester City and we aspire to be the best. This includes the mental side of the game. Pep plays an ultra cautious game and gets pissed off when players go against his expectations.
Anyway, it's done now. Hopefully James will get more chances in the team and be a decent player for us.

The next time you see a player free around the penalty spot with the goal in front of him spins away and run to the corner flag to waste time give me a shout.

Lol you're acting like he took a shot from 30 yards, they passed it to him inside the box and he had no one near him except Gundogan who was in his way, if we wanted to keep the ball go to the fucking corner and keep it there, don't pass it to a free guy inside the box and expect him not to shoot, there was nothing wrong with taking the shot, It wasn't a good effort but neither were Savinho, KDB, or Haaland's efforts all game.

"started a chain of events", it's Pep's ridiculous refusal to use his subs which leads to crosses constantly coming in until the end, if he put Grealish on he would've had more energy to block that cross rather than than a knackered Savinho, if he didn't sell Alvarez without replacing him we would be far better at pressing from the front and stop so many attacks from even happening, oh and maybe not play a dead Bernardo Silva 90 minutes every game, but no let's blame McAtee because he had the audacity to take a shot from 12 yards.

Nobody's pretending that Pep got everything right or that other players shouldn't carry their share of the responsibility but the fact remains that McAtee's City career is on a knife edge. He took on a shot with an official Xg of 0.18 which means that there was a strong chance that Brentford would have a good opportunity to run at our knackered and/or slow midfield and defence.
Anyway I'm not going to change my view on the matter despite being in the minority so I'm done arguing about it.

Indeed Pep is more to blame than anyone on the pitch last night and picking out McAtee for blame is rather unfair.

James is thrown onto the pitch not knowing when he is going to get another start so he's anxious and it shows. That's on Pep not on James.

Pep makes some weird decisions sometimes, the youngsters have done OK for us recently when they have come on but he prefers the tried and trusted "Shit yourself" tactic of having old legs chasing fast players on the break.

I wouldn't blame him yesterday and wouldn't blame him for shooting - the shot was poor though, which was disappointing.

Bit of a concern though that he gets minutes here and there and during that time we concede. Might not be directly on him, but is it just a coincidence? I don't know. He came on at 3-0 v Feyenoord and did nothing directly wrong as far as I recall, and others made mistakes, but is he trying too hard and being out of position etc?
