Priced out?

The worry than is would we come back ? I'm not 100% sure I would. But age and travel time is against me to be honest

4 generations of our family have been match going City fans - from my Grandad in the late 1920s, my parents, me and now my kids. We have been extremely lucky enough to afford season tickets but quite how anyone without one can finance going to games these days on a match by match basis at those prices, god knows.

I live within 10 miles of the ground, dont pay the club for parking, dont buy a programme and dont go into the club shop bar very rare occasions either. In short, I dont raise enough revenue for them when I support my club and thus fans like me and indeed yourself are the classic "legacy" ones the club sees as replaceable.

City are systematically dismantling the structure of City's match going fan base bit by bit, match by match, with their all consuming and obsessive pursuit of increasing match day revenue, and in the process pricing people, families, and friends out, and limiting seats together for friends and families.
Absolutely spot on. And the Super League nonsense - where I believe we were termed as "legacy" fans displayed this completely too.

That's why they gifted you a tenner to try changing habits and cheap marketing
I dont spend anything either still got tenner

I think for fans like myself who travel a fair distance to the Etihad it's becoming all most impossible to do it regular. If I get do it regularly i feel part of the fans/club/team I don't see the point of just going once or twice that's what tourist do.
As soon as Manchester stop cars coming into town that's me finished. its difficult enough getting to Manchester as it is. To than park up outside of Manchester than get to the ground its not on for me

PS apart from beer I don't spend at the ground !

Ditto re still having the £10

If you cash in the £10 will a club survey follow asking why you only visit the bar when given a 'gift' or is it to justify another upcoming seasoncard increase?

I did the stadium tour over Christmas was talking to the tour guide about the hospitality packages. And the prices are absolutely extortionate! You could book a two week holiday abroad for most of them. I’m paying almost a grand for my season ticket these days. Don’t think it’ll be long before I’m priced out

Genuineley. If I didn't have all my season tickets, I wouldn't pay £75 to watch ANY football match in the premier league. This is through principle. Can I afford it? Yes, quite easily, I am in a financially stable part of my life but I know many many are not and I have total empathy for those that cannot and will not pay it.
City-Take your fucking head out of your arses!!

Once the corporate and hospitality mob are priced out, we are doomed. We would have been bidding for Jamie Vardy and Patrick Bamford in this transfer window. To some it might be a price worth paying - becoming a yo-yo club again - to have more affordable and available tickets.

I can't feel the emotion for winning for the players and club anymore like we used to because both seem to be so distant from us now, I'd rather we were a tighter knit unit even if winning things wasn't a given.

It's the club and players and it's us always seemingly fighting to stop them being fuckers with us.

I generally drive from Hawarden near Chester but recently I’ve caught the train as I now have a bus pass (60 in Wales) and I bought a seniors railcard so I can get to games for ~£12

With the exception of Spoons the beer at the Etihad with the seasoncard discount is cheaper than the local pubs I’ve been in

My only issue is that my iPhone 6 won’t work at the turnstile or at the bar .. time for an upgrade I guess

As a matchday purchaser, with long points history, a few years ago I could buy our 5 seats together in the July window for the chosen games, and the prices particulary for kids and concessions were significant, but not extortionate.

Now, every July is a shit show, multiple devices open trying to get tickets, no big games available (even with the 5 attendances requirement met), can't get any decent seats together. I get it that demand has increased, so prices are up and availability is down.

But then they do this second drop nonsense, which is repeat of July. You'll pick up the odd single but rarely together or where you want it. Then, a week or so before the lesser games, all these unsold hospitality and agency returns appear, so you can get some seats together up the back of the 300's, shite athmosphere up there, it's too late for travel plans, and flight prices are excessive.

And in the week of the game the ticket exchange ones appear, no issue with that, be better if it was earlier, but people decide late that they can't go.

The club has turned what were a very enjoyable 5/6 annual trips to Manchester for a group of longstanding loyal blues, into a flipping nightmare.

It is genuinely not worth it anymore.

I have properly ranted this before lol.
But I can feel the City fire in me going out, something I thought would never happen. Manchester is my birthplace City are my club but I don't feel part of City anymore. Going to matches with my lad was a big part of my life. It's always been expensive because we live in SE Kent, but I always found the money.

Our greatest season was the 22/23 went to around 15 plus matches home & away. Hugging my lad so tight when Gundo got the 3rd against villa, the whole area around us in the SS3 going bonkers. I really felt part of that season, silly I know but we thought we played our part. Going home after every game with a horse throat ! The laughs in the car great times.

Now I feel this has gone and it's abit sad. I wanted to stop going when my body said enough is enough, on my terms. I never thought I would stop going because we can't sit together or even warrant paying 70quid per game. I could afford it but I won't pay it 70quid to watch 60 minutes of football at best with all the time wasting. The emotional feeling has gone

It's been great following City around England for the last 4 decades and the last decade and abit with my lad. Great father and son time.

We have won more than I could have dreamt of, wished my dad was still here to see it. I guess we all must stop going at sometime.

I feel sad at the way I have stopped going regularly, it's been great

I love the Club. That’s mainly us the fans who I see as a tribe, the owners who’ve transformed our lives and the team to an extent. Not City Execs, management, admin etc.

That said, it has always been when I’ve been to rugby league that I’ve felt a closer connection with the players. I don’t expect us to/ City to have the likes of Kevin Sinfield, Rob Burrow etc (except Vinny Kompany) but this debate ignores one of the main factors driving up ticket prices. Namely player salaries. Phil Foden, great player, was going to leave unless his salary offer of 275 grand per week was increased substantially. Yes the players will maximise their income and there’s not a lot we can do about that.

In a nutshell, every time someone slags off Soriano without mentioning players’ salaries, they really aren’t interested in addressing route causes. FWIW, I read Napoli’s star player is moving to PSG and his annual salary will increase from
2 to 12 million Euros.

Someone posted a picture on here from the 70's which looked like it was from someones parlour with Swales and the management team having a photo taken, that would be impossible now really.

When we win something now I don't get the feeling that WE have won it rather than THEY have won it if that makes sense?

I feel a little like that.. We still enjoy the value gold in SS3 and despite our seats going up to £450 each we still think it’s good value..

I’m slowly falling out of love with the matchday experience though, partly because the club is more interested in getting tourists in who spend money in the club’s outlets (understandable) but also because of issues with SWMBO’s health that mean we should be spending time doing stuff together… I also play golf regularly and cycle in the warmer months so it’s trying to fit it all in

I’ll keep going for the foreseeable future but I hear you ..

£450 ! Including my matchday card that's just 6 games for me lol mad

I don't disagree with what you say but I think City should be thinking of all the fans not just local.
Local fans 'just' have ticket price to pay. We have fuel, food and mostly time. The time it takes to do 600 miles in this country is fucking ridiculous.

Two main problems I see are ticket prices plus being able to be sat with your mates or family.

The last two seasons have been a nightmare for this. We have gone from attending 15 plus matches down to 4. These 4 games we aren't sat together :(

I think this season is my last sadly
Agreed.

However there are obviously limitations as to what the club can do.

They cant subsidise your travel or pay for a pre match pint in the Thorncliffe Miners Welfare & Social Club

When youve shagged Miss World six nights out of seven ,had double, trebles and quimtruples along with masses of excitement you could never of imagined, the novelty might wear off a little.

Thats how i fee,l but fuck me its been fun !!
