The Labour Government

  1. Category 1 ranges from a maximum sentence of 26-weeks custody to a community order and is usually reserved for the most serious cases. These cases usually involve substantial force used to cause significant physical or psychological harm to a victim.
  2. Category 2, which holds a sentence ranging anywhere from a 16-weeks custodial sentence to a community order, incorporates instances of minor injuries and lesser culpability.
  3. Category 3 ranges from a high-level community order to a Band C fine. This category includes cases where little to no physical harm or distress is suffered by the victim and the offender played a less significant role in committing the offence

The assault would appear to fall into a category 2 offence? Repeatedly punching someone on the ground?

The guy clearly has no morals , he has effectively been rightly kicked out of the labour party but is now clinging on to his job as an MP regardless. This happens way too often, the rules should be changed so that a by election is automatically called where an MP is removed from their party.

It will rest on the economy imo, if they grow it and they manage to cover their large spending excesses they will probably get in again. If they don't they will surely be out?

The economy is doing worse so far under the new government, but it is very early days.
In the grand scheme of things the economy is doing fine under the new government. I think people think that government actually has some massive impact on the economy but beyond major policy changes they really don't make that much difference.

The changes made by Labour so far are just minimal or non-existent, it was even the same for Truss. We're now seeing impacts to 10 year gilts for example but who actually cares?

If we should care then shouldn't we look at why the markets aren't spooked by the UK fiscal deficit which today stands at £120bn? Or what about the £2.7tn national debt itself or the £90bn per year that we waste annually just in debt interest repayments?

If we're going to worry about this then that tells you who big government really represents. They're not actually not interested in the economy, they're interested in the whims of turbulence in financial services... And ironically those are the very people who brought down the economy in 2008.

Bit like Biden.

The far right cunts like Führage plus the client journalist will make sure any good news is buried under another populist crusade about Migration or Kiddy fiddling.

Well I disagree. The government needs growth to enact the plans they have, only very early days but we haven't had any culmulative growth as yet.

This is an odd one because does anybody actually understand who shareholders really are? If you have a pension that you want to grow above bank interest rates then it is very like that actually you are an evil shareholder.

Pension funds invest in stocks often for the dividend. If those companies suffer then the dividend suffers and your pension suffers, they might then invest elsewhere. Either way, you have a direct interest in obtaining the best return too.

If the government decided to impose a punitive system that is against shareholders then would you be happy to accept less money in retirement? I'd guess not, so why should we be in favour of such a thing?

Thank you Gordon Gekko:-).

This is the crux of the problem though, we're asking people to not put money above everything else but that is precisely what we do as a society. It's probably why we'll end up with a Tory government next time and not a Labour one regardless of what Labour actually do.

Globalism is a problem because your local bookshop, baker, grocer, butcher... They've all been replaced by massive conglamorates and the major supermarkets. We're well aware of this but where will you shop today? You won't goto a local baker for your bread, instead you'll go to Aldi because they're cheaper. So we talk of hating shareholders and the capitalist system but we readily accept the benefits and turn a blind eye to that system when it benefits us?

I don't really know what the solution to this is but we criticise the country that we live in and yet we are the ones who signed up for it. We cannot have a system where we all pay nothing and get everything. You can't get cheap bread whilst damaging the economies of scale that exist to make your bread cheaper.

I read of mention of the Scandinavian countries but the Scandinavian countries ultimately rely upon everybody paying more and not just the rich. Labour had to promise not to put up taxes on the general population. Why did they have to do that if the truth is we all want something better? The fact is we do want something better but we want it for free and that's the problem. It perfectly explains why we will probably get back a Tory government in 5 years time.
I agree with a lot of that but we didn't all sign up for it. For any party to win an election you only need a certain amount of people on board.

Presumably we are all expecting a jail sentence for disgraced MP Mike Amesbury for agrivated assault ? For repeatedly punching a man whilst on the ground? Or do we think we are going to see more evidence of our two teir justice system in action?
Not all one poster tried to justify it as maybe there was previous which was a new low, most rightfully condemned including some Labour supporters and some other regular Starmer guys were strangely absent with their views ;-)

Talking of which, how do you feel about Boris Johnson's two-tier system that saw him and his mates partying while 100,000 people actually died?

And what sort of jail sentence do you think the disgraced ex-PM should be looking at?

Was that the former PM who tried to change the rules when his mate was found guilty of lobbying and faced a recall - or maybe the PM who sent a mate to lie to the Queen and illegally prorogue Parliament - or the PM who lied to Parliament and faced a recall vote himself so baled because his ego couldn't take it? What? That was all the same person?

He won’t go to prison and that’s not any evidence towards a two tier justice system.
