So you lose a few games and you’re ‘fallen giants’

Holy shit, we're literally the defending Premier League champions.

And last year we went out the Quarter Finals on pens.

Fallen giants may be pushing it slightly.

They've got an awful record when actually in a title challenge, not one won since the 80s, I was 10 when they bottled it in 89 so have never consciously been aware of the dipper winning an actual title race despite knowing them win the league.
To be fair, it was Arsenal who almost bottled it in '89. Liverpool were 11 points behind Arsenal at one point and proceeded to claw it back to the point that they were in the box seat going into the final game. You could argue that they bottled that final game but given it was a match between the two teams battling it out for the title, it was no disgrace that they lost.

Well we are 5th in the league we are supposedly defending and in the very last spot of the qualifying places with a tough away fixture tonight. Fallen Giants is an extreme though, even more so comparing us to the likes of PSG, where our success has eclipsed theirs. Wouldn't have even called them a giant

Weren't liverpool only 11 points behind due to Hillsborough postponements though?

Utterly pathetic. And some on here claim we are precious souls for calling our the bias and agenda.
There's no doubt there's a bias and an agenda out there, I only call out the ones getting their knickers in a twist over every single "negative" thing written. In fact I have my suspicions over some posters reasons for posting in this thread (and that's not aimed at you).

Later on in the season, yes they were 11 points behind with 3 games in hand but after 19 games each Arsenal had 40 points (W12 D4 L4) and Liverpool only had 28 points (W7 D7 L5) so the gap was actually 12 points at the half way stage

Stumbling Giants doesn't have quite the same headline impact I guess.

The best comment is: “To some it is Abu Dhabi v Qatar.” Just the usual racist drivel we have come to expect from the English media. Ironic considering the Middle East ownership of the Independent website.

Liverpool were in a position where they would still win the title if they lost by a single goal. They went 1-0 down and sat back prepared to defend a 1-0 defeat but Arsenal scored a second and won the title. On the night it was Liverpool that bottled it IMO.

I don't disagree with that assessment but my point was that they were always chasing in the title race itself until the penultimate game where they finally got their noses in front. It wasn't the classic definition of a bottle job in that they blew a big points lead over multiple games. Due to the tight margins involved, they only actually bottled it in the last 60 seconds of the season!

I would add that that match remains my favourite match ever that didn't involve City.

Remember it like it was yesterday.
Oh how we celebrated, both blues and reds, in our local in Heywood that night

That was the night my mate christened Dalglish as Kenny Dalggutted.

I was getting a bit of flack in the club on Saturday from a couple of rags. I just said it was the same wage as Alexis Sanchez got at the rags and he only played about 20 times for them before they shipped him out, still paying him the vast majority of the 500k per week. Perspective eh, it was a short conversation after that.
Did the same with a gobby rag yesterday. Reeled off several rag signings that cost millions and hardly played before being given away.

ESPN's resident rag Ogden: Is this the end of the City Era: What we learned from Liverpool and United - another way to shoehorn the red clubs into anything they possibly can whilst denegrating city in any way they can.

The **** realises we lost the best player in the world after 12 games right?
