Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

I believe in saying something when we disagree with refs but I’ve been reading today about Oliver, probably my least favourite ref, having to have police protection for his family, including a 2 year old, because of death threats.
That is diabolical, the man is doing his job and may, or may not, have made a mistake. You do not send death threats for that. You do not send death threats full stop!
It’s a flaming game not war. The individuals who send these threats need reminding that it is just a game.
As a parent of a ref I see and hear plenty of bad stuff even on forums!! Was at a Q and A last night and Mike Dean was the guest.Although never my cup of tea when he reffed he mentioned the death threats he and his family received. A really nice bloke nothing like the persona he gave out on the pitch.
Also his highlight game was when he did the Aguero qpr game.

Of course it was, he only just about controlled himself from joining the pile-on

If that game was today Dermot on ref watch would of wanted Dean to send Aguero off for over celebrating

Ref was soft.

Book out for time wasting due to our players screaming at him and the fans shouting.....resulted in 2 extra mins in the first half.

Never stopped them gaining 15+ yards numerous times on throw-ins which until we were in front were taking forever as well.

Although watching on the telly he seemed to do ok last night.

The one thing that stood out was when we were awarded a corner which he eventually changed to a goal kick when Kev & Phil were ready to take it.....was he told by VAR?

If he was not only is that wrong there was a similar incident in the second half where he gave them a goal kick and it should have been out corner....if VAR are feeding info it should be consistent.

Was the lino. Ref pointed to him after the decision was changed.

The radio commentary sarcastically called it a "stretching of the rules"

Funnily enough, to my eyes at least, that’s exactly what VAR should be used for. Refs made a mistake, easy to tell it’s a goal kick, so just give a goal kick.
If the VAR can see with one look that it’s a goal kick/corner or a throw in the other way, just give it.
Anything that needs slowing down or drawing lines, leave it alone.

One rule for one, F…a.. for us

Why do we always seem to get a Spanish ref when it's a crucial game? Is there a Spanish ref that Pep has not had a run in with, either as player or manager?

And when Eddie came rushing out of his area to head the toe-end clearance and then with his second bite put a couple of City players in from onside positions as Erl was traipsing back, the Spanish whistling wanker blew for our free kick. I didn't see anything that was a foul.

We are constantly told in the PL that corners, throw ins, yellow cards are left well alone by VAR. Perhaps Uefa have a separate set of rules, or perhaps a different set depending on who wears what!

I think it's more they are all Real Madrid fans still butt hurt how Pep used to spank them on their home turf on a regular basis.

Can anyone, maybe UEFA explain why only one minute injury time for the second half despite multiple subs, three goals and some time wasting? The sooner football is timed like rugby the better.

Time keeping even in the PL seems to be very strange in a lot of our games.
