Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

If there was a time for tinkering, it’s now. The midfield as we’ve seen it is going to be torn to shreds in the next couple weeks against teams much more ruthless up front. If we get more of the same then we’re watching the dictionary definition of insanity.

Having initially decided to leave at the end of the season, he should have stuck with his original decision.
He probably realises and regrets that now. He would have gone out on a real high - 4 consecutive titles - and handed over a declining squad to the new boy. Much as my namesake did at the swamp.

As it is, shit and bullets are flying around, he’s looking bewildered and beleaguered, and his mental well-being must be suffering.

Every empire has its day.

Agreed.
Not because he should go, but because he should be either bedding in for another 3 minimum or nothing at all.
1+1 puts him in managerial purgatory and that's no place to be when your previous stint burnt the legs off your team.

I'm not arsed about winning this season if it's a genuine Pellers like season where we lay the ground for the next guy.

However we seem to be doing the worst of everything and now Pep has had a shocker.

Awful everywhere.

It's not a behaviour that got us where we are.

Still, I suppose getting of the Pep train was never going to be easy.

Perfectly put mate.

Some utter pish posted in here at the moment because we are not winning everything all of a sudden.
That’s an infantile post, betraying a complete lack of proportion.

Just about everyone on here would tolerate a season not winning anything. What’s provoking the “pish” is that so-called lesser managers with comparative Poundland squads are running rings round us whilst the manager clings to an old system with old players and little hunger.

No matter how many titles you’ve won in the past, you have to adapt to changed circumstances and we are seeing little evidence of that.

But carry on calling people out if it makes you feel better.

We need to offload 2 CBs in the summer and get a proper RB and cover for Rodri.
I am not sure why he is not using inverted fullbacks to flood the midfield

not sure what is he planning for midfield but we are up against Valverde, Bellingham, Ceballos midfield soon followed by Guimaraes,Tonali, Joelinton trio then Real again and then a McAllister, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai trio all in two weeks.

he surely cannot think a Bernardo-Kovacic duo can go up against these. Newcastle midfield doesnt have that much speed but very physical and good stamina.
Liverpool midfield quick and also energy to go box to box all game.
Real midfield has speed and energy but may not be that great in defending. would look better with Camavinga but he is injured at the moment. Modric can come in adding experience but not much stamina at age 39 lol.

midfield battle will dictate our next few big games, and cannot see what solution is Pep opting for. he wont get away with a line up like vs Arsenal with Savinho, Foden, Marmoush all starting. he needs to remove one of these and add more steel and energy to midfield. but with who? Gundo?

if midfield is bypassed easily again in these games too then our defence will get no help, and they will panic and put chances on a plate for Isak, Gordon, Salah, Diaz, Nunez, Mbappe, Vinicius etc.
good thing is we surely instructed Txiki to help with the midfield situation in the January window and he is on it. or is he?
Probably gonna have to be Kova Bernardo and Gonzalez in midfield set up like he did against Chelsea but Gonzalez for Gundo.
