I think this is the first week in the season we haven’t got a midweek game, since the fa cup final Pep has had very little time to train with the team, hes said it himself. They play, next day recover, following day come in for a tiny bit of training then they have another game or are travelling to a game. You have multiple injuries then you have to fit players in, Nunes will have had about 2 possibly 3 trading sessions to fit in at left back, apart from his fuck up he did ok.
Pep said you can’t do tactics on a white board you must train together, hopefully this week he can sort something out or some of the senior players need to step up and have a word why it’s not working, if they think they aren’t capable of carrying out this system let him know, hopefully he would listen. Top 4 this year is a must and a few good performances, I don’t think any signings in January will make a huge difference.

wonder if we signed someone like Saka, would we in the current set up ask him to hold up the ball, turn back, pass it back, recycle the ball, rarely beat defenders, get into the box, get a shot off knowing he has decent stats both for scoring and assisting, much better than any our current wingers, would we use his strengths or would we ask him to revert to type and be like Grealish just on the right side?

Bukayo Saka is a much better player than Grealish ever will be.

He'd get more goals and more assists than Grealish, regardless of how he would be supposedly instructed to play.

The reason why Jack is a squad player is because he doesn't have nearly enough of a direct impact in the final third. That's not to do with tactics, that's down to his own shortcomings.

Because we had players who liked to be direct instead of passing the responsibility to others.

Neither Jack or Bernardo have the capability to attack with speed.
This is a huge problem in this team.

Look at our 17/18 side as an example…

Silva and KDB at 8, both wanted to score and create goals. Sane and Sterling out wide, both direct and wanted to score and create goals. All 4 of them, taking responsibility to make things happen.

Look at today’s versions. There’s only KDB and he’s 6 years older and been plagued by injuries. Even Foden, seems to have gone into his shell. Our wide men are fucking useless. They’re not bad players but they are fucking useless in terms of delivering what you want/need/expect from wide forwards at the top level. All of them, should be delivering 15+ G/A contributions over the course of a season, Grealish and Savinho haven’t scored a fucking goal between them this season…it’s December.

I used to lose my shit at Sterling for his poor control, or missing another sitter but you know what…he took on the responsibility and got 20 goals a season. Our current crop should be embarrassed by their returns. Even Nunes has managed to get a steady number of assists when playing out wide. Theres zero excuses.

I remember Pep talking about Stones having massive balls. We need to sign AMs and wide forwards who have the same. The current bunch have vaginas.

We need to stop blaming Pep.

Just ask yourself this.. was Grealish under instruction to take a terrible corner or Nunes under instructions to run back into the box and give away a pen?

It's on the players and honestly it feels like Ruben + 10 clowns out there!
Who prepares the same highline tactics week in, week out even tho were getting turned over every game

Our game management us absolutely wank.
Walker is still tearing around the pitch like he's in his early 20s and constantly out of position. He contributes nothing in the buildup or offensively. He should be told not to cross the halfway line under any circumstances.

The system has now been worked out finally and we cant break teams down, needs to change or nothing else will.
I think our system still works with the right players. As it stands though, the opposition know that nothing is coming from out wide. Our wingers cut inside and play backwards. Our full backs don’t overlap. It means they can put all their focus on protecting the middle, that’s why KDB, Foden and particularly Haaland have zero space.

If Pep is going to persist with a front 3, the current wide men either need a rocket up their arses, or they need to fuck off out of the club. Sounds harsh but you can’t play a front 3, if the guy in the middle is the only 1 that scores goals. Our wide men are like having 2 extra full backs on the pitch. The left side is bad enough but the right side with Walker and Bernie, is fucking terrible.
