The same Real Madrid who with all those galacticos only finished in the play-offs of the UCL, got beat off Espanyol who are 17th in La Liga & needed a 93rd minute penalty to beat 16th place Leganes.

Although it won't be easy, they aren't the same team that we've lost cruelly too over the last couple of seasons & hopefully the luck that has alluded us over those seasons will go our way.
They are still leaders of la liga and we are even further away of the team we were the last few seasons . Has to be citys 2 best games of the season to stand a chance against them. Hopefully those idiotic mistakes at the back are gone for those important knock out games and league games ahead.

The team for me will be:
Ederson
Akanji | Dias | Stones | Gvardiol
Nico | Kova
KDB
Foden | Haaland | Marmoush

Need to get a lead to take Madrid and seeing how Marmoush played on the left against Chelski where he played more like a inside left and opened up space for Josko to exploit I can see Pep trying to expose (likely) Vazquez who positionally isn’t great (and defensively imo)

As much as I’d like to see Kusanov get a go at RB I think Pep will stick with the experience of Akanji even though he’s been a liability lately.

Like us, they have had injuries and lost games. Still, they are top in La Liga. They played mostly squad players vs Leganes and were all over Español being a bit unlucky.

In Mbappe, Vin Jr, Bellingham, Rodrygo, Valverde, etc. they have a terrific attack. Their defence is crippled by injuries which is something which we hope to exploit.

Khusanov at RB wouldn’t be such a bad idea, if he goes in hard on Vinicius it might just put Vinci Jr off his game and Vini Jr may not want to attempt to dribble past him. That’s just old school RB defending.

Nunes has become the new goto boo boy because he made a poor pass in the derby that is almost identical to Aké at Anfield last season & almost every defender under Pep has made that mistake at some point. Akanji looks mentally & physically fatigued & although he has the ability to one game look world class & another to look absolutely awful,

I'm not sure there's much difference & Nunes probably offers more in attack, especially if Phil or Berny play on the right
Whilst Akanji is short on confidence and form at present I still think he is better option than Nunes. Nunes has done a decent job as an interim rb, but Viniscus will rip him a new one. I would n't be averse to Kushanov being given the rb slot but as you said in your earlier post he would have to be wary of Madrid's shithousery tactics.

Agreed - the team that have won 15 CL’s. Real Madrid are the one side you don’t want to face in the knockouts.

A solid back 4 please with NO inverted fullback let eddy play long to haaland and play from there.

Im kinda hoping we do go full Stoke in this tie at times.

We need to sod this playing out the back all the time right now. The team just cannot do it at the top level.

Just hoof it up to Haaland and let him terrorise that depleted defense, and with that get Marmoush and Savinho playing off him.

I'm not Nunes's biggest fan but, bar a couple of mistakes, I think he's done pretty well at FB. It's not his natural position but he does have some pace at least. Whoever plays up against Vinicius needs to keep concentration.

I seem to remember Pep doing exactly this against Arsenal recently (last year?).

Ederson
Lewis stones dias gvardiol
Kova Nico
Savinho foden marmoush
Haaland

I would go with that maybe pep goes with akanji but if he is playing through injury then best he stays out the team for a couple games I would also like nunes to be in midfield just for his legs in there if it's not working for Lewis then khusanov comes on rb

Christ 6 of those were when nobody else was in the competition! It’s a fucking myth about them, take the first 6 away and they are only 3 more than Liverpool, their league is shite compared to ours, their FA helps them when it’s needed with rearranging fixtures. Let them come and play in our league for a few years and see if they win it as much, teams from PL winning it is much harder and putting a treble on top of that even a double is next to impossible
