Like a lot of the current squad Ederson peaked upon sealing the Treble. He's been getting worse ever since. This season has seen a dramatic drop off. Sad but there's little room for sentiment if you want to win stuff at this level and that's what Pep and the recruitment team have been guilty of IMO.

Anyway, Eddie and Walker should have been replaced post treble season.

Bernardo, Grealish and Akanji should have been replaced last summer.

KDB you could argue should have been replaced last summer too. Though I'd keep him on as he can become our Modric if hes willing to accept that role. He can be a game changer even if he's having a shit day but it's clear he can't last more than 60mins

They've all been legends. Anyone part of the squad in the last 4 years will go down in City history but father time catches up with everyone at some point. We've absolutely squeezed every drop out of this squad and it's telling now.

These players plus Gundo and Nunes need to go. Gundo absolute hero but looks leggy. Nunes just isn't good enough and with summer recruits coming in, the man has no place in the squad tbh.

The likes of Rico and Kovacic should be bench warmers (particularly Rico - I don't think he'll ever be good enough to start but he's young and could improve, ya never know, stranger things have happened).

Hopefully the summer revamp revitalises Foden and he can form part of the new core crop of players. If summer recruitment goes well the group that are left (Haaland, Marmoush, Foden, Nico, Rodri, Dias, Gvardiol, Stones + Reis & Khusanov) can form a team capable of challenging for multiple major honors again.

Ake. Great servant but will there be room for him after the summer especially with his with his age and injury record this year?

Savinho & Doku - the jury is out on them. Both have been inconsistent. On current form, I'm not sure either can become world class like their most obvious past comparators - Mahrez and Sane respectively. McAtee - is he good enough? Seen glimpses of brilliance but can he step up and be a genuine starting XI contender? It's these players just below the starting XI that have a massive impact on success. They have to be putting enough pressure on starters know those in the 1st XI can't drop their levels for fear of being dropped. At the moment nobody at this level of the squad seems good enough to this.

Bobb is our best promising youngster and I'm sure will be immense for us. Hopefully Echeverri can follow but I know little about him. Likewise with McFarlane, how much can he push our senior LB for a place?

We have a massive job in the summer. Hope the fucking club world cup bollocks doesn't ruin everything.

But yeah Ederson - time to go mate. It's been good but nothing lasts forever.
Absolutely bang on for me mate.

Of course I wouldn’t, but mine and a professional footballers situations are not in a way the same.

Ederson has the ability to play at the highest level of football for at least another 5 years and would probably earn at least £50m in doing so. He could then make the move to Saudi for a few years after with him and his family already never having to think about money again.

I can understand players in the twilight of their careers making the move but not those in their prime and with the ability to still play at the top level.
Why's it not the same. He's doing a job, you do a job.

He's completed club football. Nothing else to achieve.

The Saudi money might not be there in a few years. It might not even be there this summer. It's a once in a lifetime move.

Him and his own are already set up for life though, he’s probs been on circa 200k a week for 8 years at city? And could probably play for another 8 for us if he wanted.

I’ll never understand it, even the average championship wage is around £20k a week.
He is on no where near 200k a week.

The money on offer from Saudi is eye watering, a game changer for him, his family, his friends and half of the favela where he came from.

The guy has won the lot, don't forget it must be incredible difficult for a boy from Brazil to live in a cold northern city for the last 8 years, in Saudi at least he gets back to the sun, semi retirement and he leaves a multi millionaire, good luck to him.

Citys average annual salary is £6.5m a year, as a longstanding main stay of the team I highly doubt he's on anything less than the average, with bonuses and everything else included he'll be close to £200k.

You say eye-watering but he's not exactly on peanuts now is he? Hes already a mutli millionaire? He's playing in the most watched, competitive league in the world in a successful team under arguably one of the best managers in the world and is in his prime. We know goalkeepers have an extended shelf life and can still perform at a high level well into their late 30s.

I understand it for players past their peak and in their twilight years but never will for players who choose to go in their primes such Duran, Neves, Diaby etc already have.

It's a job to him, he's not a City fan, he's won the lot and deserves our utter respect, we have had some wonderful goalkeepers in our history and this fella is up there among the best and he's one of the most likable characters I have ever seen in our shirt or in the game for that matter.

I will be gutted to see him go, but he owes us nothing but our thanks.

I completely agree, which is why I'd rather see him stay at City than go to an uncompetitive league when he has so many years still ahead of him at 31.

Ultimately it's up to him, he's contracted until 2026 but even if he moves I'd still respect him and what he's done for us but just wouldn't understand it personally - not since he's still in his prime and already paid millions a year.

When did he last sign a contract? He won’t be on 200k and even if he was, after tax, he certainly isn’t.

Would you leave your current job to do the same job somewhere else for effectively 4 times the salary?

Most would.

2021, bearing in mind he was signed as the most expensive keeper in prem history and the fact that the average annual wage at city is £6.5m a year or £135k a week - then when you add in bonuses I don't think its ridiculous to say he's on something close to that.

Obviously most people would - but most people aren't already millionaires with financial freedom to pass on for generations so pointless even comparing.

I know he's won the lot and been a great for us but he still has so much time in his career ahead of him. To call time on the top level (whilst still earning a ridiculous amount of money) now would be such a waste of talent in my opinion and is why I'll never understand why top players make that type of move before the back end of their careers.

What motivation does he have to keep going? Even if you lose 1%, it makes you a far less effective player.

He’s unlikely to take Alisson’s spot in goal for Brazil and has completed club football.

He can now choose his own destiny and decide which motivating factor is most important to him.

More medals or more money? Maybe his outlook has changed now.

Agree with nearly all of that apart from Savinho. I think the signs of potential brilliance were there from the start with him. He’s taken a while to settle in like Sane did at his age. Really starting to show that’s there’s so much more to come from him though and i think he will become a top class winger. He’s got the touch of Mahrez but more pace. Obviously he’s not at Mahrez’s level yet but very confident he gets there and even surpasses it.

Doku is a great option as part of the squad . Think he’s worth perceiving with because of his unique natural ability and at 22 time is also on his side. Biggest worry with him is his constant injuries.

The problem is you can't just go out and buy a new Ederson.

Currently in terms of ball distribution for goalkeepers there is Eddie and then there is a vast, yawning gap to the next best.

If he does leave and we sign a new keeper we WILL be sacrificing a level of our outfield play.
We've already seen it when Ortega plays, Ortega isn't terrible with the ball, he's actually pretty decent, he just isn't Eddie.

He’s not perfect but some of the abuse of Eddie is way over the top. He has some calamity moments (which keeper doesn’t?) but it’s not like he stops us winning things. He’s been No1 during 4-in-a-row and a treble.

Looking to the future, with Marmoush and Haaland up top, there is no other keeper that I want instead. He can be pinging balls to them all the time.

The old Ederson today, hopefully it's the same one on Wednesday and no brain farts.
