Yeah, I think Pep will want smaller than 20 but pretty guaranteed it'll be more than the 16 or so he's been managing for the last few years. 19 or 20 seems the sweet spot for the time being.

We don't have a first 11 but there are certain players that expect to play regularly and play in the biggest games and finals. Wirtz would be one of those,so it's impossible to have 20 players of that level. Especially if we have a fully fit squad and some of those players aren't even making he bench. We can't have a situation where there is no room on the bench for players like Bobb for example.
 
I know he's very good but I hope we are searching for tougher creative players. Someone like Rodri or Yaya who can control midfield but also threaten goal. Let the lighter lads be upfront or wide.

No idea of these giant David Silvas even exist but that's what I'd be after.

We play 60+ games a season, I think we need 8 players for the front 4 (CF, LW, AM, RW): Marmoush, Doku, Wirtz, Echeverri, Foden, Bobb, Savinho and Haaland. Effectively 2 per position, but most players can cover multiple positions. Not so sure it will be Wirtz, could be someone like Baena, Baturina, CDK instead

For the two other midfield spots (DM, CM): Rodri, Nico, one of Kova/Bernardo, a new signing (and O’Reilly). 4 players for the 2 positions with Nico being slowly integrated as a 5th option

We play with two attacking mids. Especially with the treble formation. Phil and Wirtz could be behind Haaland as two 10's with Savio right wing and Gvardiol pushing to the left wing.

Not to mention, Kova + Nunes + Phillips = 125m pounds. I would rather buy a certain world class player than three 45m players who might be okay squad players or might be horrible.

If we sign for the other more important positions (which I said would be 4-6 players), AND THEN if there is somehow funds to get Wirtz. Then we should do it.

But unless some ITK comes out and says there is some crazy warchest in the summer (more than 300m) Im not sure.

Saying Mcatee and Echeverri are options seems very short sighted. Mcatee other than scoring goals doesn’t assert himself in the game. He can’t be a creative #10. Also, expecting echeverri to come in and smash it is unrealistic. We need bodies in. This season we’ve had a decline because we’ve not got that sweet spot of age profiles or a consistent world class creator.

Reading the Pep book,and it's not very often referred to as 4 at the back, it's either 3 +2 with 3 centre backs and a full back where one of the defenders ,usually the full back except Stones in the treble year is playing next to the 6 and covering the defence. Or 2 + 3 with 2 centre backs and 2 fullbacks where the 2 full backs play either side of the 6 and cover the defensive sides.
Both options open up with the addition of a player like Cambiaso to the centre backs we already have and Lewis.
