Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

I might be in a minority but I thought the ref actually had a reasonably good game tonight. Replays of close corner/goal kick decisions shows he got them correct; yellow cards were all right, no soft ones and don’t remember any being missed. Exercised common sense with most of the smaller fouls rather than waving cards around.

Then went and ruined it all with that absolutely ridiculous disallowing of the goal. Complete guess of a decision, no conclusive evidence of handball, no check of the monitor… completely lost any goodwill accumulated from an otherwise ok game. Perfectly good goal, disgraceful decision.

There was a clear handball from one of the spurs defenders (the one who wasn’t Gray) when our goal was disallowed.
This was seemingly before the Haaland handball could have (but clearly didn’t) happen.

How in that situation were we not awarded a penalty?

Why bother checking for 5 mins on VAR if the only outcome could ever have been no goal???

Also, surely as part of their review they should have called out that the defender handled the ball?
It did take too long.

Personally I don't think any player handballed it. Unfortunately this rule about the goalscorer handling doesn't apply to the defender.

The handball rule combined with this 'clear and obvious' caused that decision. I don't agree with it.

We play in Blue

I think Matterface just got caught up in the celebrations, all the City players around the ref knew it was no goal and the ref would have told VAR, I've ruled it out, should it be overturned.

The bigger issue is the current handball rule. Been saying it was 3 or 4 years now.
It was two of them. Matterface and hoddle both didn't hear no goal. VAR didn't check fir the obvious penalty from the first player that moved his elbow towards the ball. They didn't check this as the were confirm the goal I suspect. We know for definite that they werent checking any penalty decisions as the commentators wiuld have definitely pucked this up. It's the only explanation that makes any sense.

They will come up with some bullshit excuse ( if we are lucky) guess it will be overlooked because it does not suit them ( premier league and tv companies)
