PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

There's a whole lot of speculation in this thread and a lot of it is wide of the mark. I don't know a lot of what is being planned in terms of coverage, but having worked for the BBC for about seven or eight years and having been on a lot of different programmes as a guest from the podcast, I can at least talk about the 'process'.

The above quote is exactly it.

When you're working on a news programme or a talk radio station, you have several types of story -- sometimes you know something's going to happen and roughly what's going to happen when it does. Take something like the Budget. We know exactly when it's going to happen and roughly what's going to be in it, so we can start lining guests up accordingly beforehand. The last thing you want is a lot of airtime to fill and nobody available to do any analysis.

With the charges, I can only speak for my experience at 5 Live, but... nobody knows what the outcome is, nobody knows when the verdict will be delivered, but what we do know is that there will be a full day of programmes that will need to cover the story and they're going to need guests. They're going to need reaction from fans, journalists, financial experts, former players... The beauty of a story like this is that it doesn't actually matter what the outcome is because the guests will still be the same type of guests -- because everyone is reacting to whatever the outcome is.

From the timescales that were spoken about previously, from the comments Guardiola has made about a verdict likely to come soon, this is all just media outlets planning for when it happens. It's not unreasonable for BBC, ITV, and everyone else firing out emails, messages and calls along the lines of: "Hi, when the verdict is announced, whatever day it is, can we give you a call to get you on air for your reaction please? What's the best number to get you on? What type of times are you generally available on weekdays or can we just try you as soon as possible?"

In this instance, if an emailer says they've been 'briefed', it's more than likely nothing to do with the outcome. They've not been briefed on the story by someone outside of the organisation, but briefed by people inside the organisation about the logistics of covering the story.
Cheers mate for that insight how things work at the BBC, I wish I had read this post sooner as I was getting slightly nervous.

Don't give Soriano ideas. He'll start charging us to watch the accountants doing monthly trial balances and bank reconciliations.

Tbf, when I was creating a whole set of accounts from a box of cheque stubs and a few invoices, it was definitely an art form. People should have paid to watch that :)

I think we can all remember when there were calls to "free the 30 000" which suggest that we were a lot less happy with the club then than we are now. So I think we need a little more detail about how exactly football is being "throttled" and what exactly is wrong with our club, which seems to have been doing quite well in recent times. We all have our gripes about ownership but rather less so today than in times past. And if you've only had 30 years of it you're a novice: plenty will remember when it was the Manchester 8 000 who needed liberating and when the hammers flew at the manager's head. Fings ain't what they used to be - thank God. What it is to have a four star hotel to moan about!
Some excellent points, dear Blue but may I say as one of the 8015 who witnessed that 1-2 defeat at home to Swindon in January 1965 (Blimey Charlie! 60 years ago!), I must say I never, ever felt the need or desire to be 'liberated' from my beloved Blues..! As old Oscar Wilde put it in 'The Picture of Dorian Gray':

'I am happy to be in my prison of passion'

Btw, and a propos of nothing really, I often think if I hadn't been there that p*ssing down winter's day with the Old Man, my cousin Keith and four of my uncles, the attendance would've been 8008. That number would have perfect rotational symmetry. However, it would've meant that I'd have missed out on one of the seminal, character-developing experiences of my life..!

And as for the PL/115/130.. well, f**k 'em..

Nota bene @Coatigan :)

Football is changing mate, we as fans are not needed the club/s prefer visitors. All I am saying is that I am not going to thank the club for excluding fans doesn't that sound reasonable?

I'm with you on this one. You don't have to squeeze every penny out of every last revenue opportunity to be financially viable. There are other intangible aspects that may not produce a short-term revenue effect, but will ensure revenue generation long-term.

It's a wholly wrong approach to milk the fanbase in the good times without considering what effect it will have in the bad times, which there will inevitably, eventually be. And it's a wholly wrong approach for the fanbase to accept it because the club is winning things. It's guaranteed that the club will lose its soul if that happens.

Soriano goes on and on in his book about understanding the "playing field". I don't think he understands the many differences in playing field between Barcelona and Manchester City. And therein lies the problem. Anyone can sense the frustration to which this is leading.

While I have noticed a big increase in contributions to this thread, I have not seen one item of 'newsworthiness'.

As far as I am aware, and to clarify, there has been NO FURTHER INFORMATION on the outcome of our case.

Big Steve has been asked if he will be interviewed when the case result is announced.
We know that sanction and result are two separate hearings.
I think that is it, despite about twenty pages in the last couple of days.

If I am wrong, please let me know because the sooner this is done and dusted, the better.

I think it's absolutely fantastic, our owners are the best in the land and all the world. If a club stands still you end up like the rags, living off past glories. You can get away with it for a while but eventually you're knackered. You end pretending to build a national stadium and go begging to the UKGOV to fund it.
Nail on the head. They hoped FFP would allow them to continue their “entitled complacency” model for running a football club.

Day 9076 on this subject.
The debate continues...
At night my head spins maddeningly with loose talk of "115" and "lavishly assembled legal eagles". Yet, upon waking, the whole cacophony of guesses, wishful thinking, spiteful conjecture, opinion and counter-opinion resounds even more confusingly.
I can only take some small consolation in knowing that all of this will serve to build my stamina for inevitable scrutiny of the upcoming sentence, sorry, I mean, report from the commission/panel/ whatever you're having yourself, sir.
That and, of course the undeniable fact that, whatever the outcome they - the media, the Premier League, those incel-like fans on social media - shall, in my eyes at least, forever remain a parcel of cunts.

Ta mate. But just as a wee reminder I am not all lost in despair, see earlier below.

People have slightly lost sight of the context that I was initially responding to. I.e the suggestion that the BBC inviting a blue to the show was an indication that they knew of a positive outcome for us.

In all fairness, I do think they are all guessing. Based on the initial expected timeframe speculated by lawyers, based on Pep's comments, based on general anticipation bubbling over.

My point was if people are taking this (which they were) as some sign that things are shaping up well, I myself would be thinking the other way.

Regardless, a bit of caution here, would not be the worst thing.

The media are just after click bait and viewing figures whatever the outcome - innocent or guilty they'll want to milk the outrage either way. The upsurge in articles and this invitation is likely an indication that the outcome will be out soon (which we already know) rather than an indication of the result.

In the day we used to take literally dozens of subbies to County Court the first time they ever took matters seriously was when a County Court summons hit their mats.

In panic they would turn up with a couple of SC60s and a couple of receipts. We would put together some numbers and hope our dear colleagues at HM Inspectors would accept them which they would and 99 times out 100 it would clear their Schedule D liability and often generate a refund. If only those subbies had sought professional help the chances are they would get an even bigger refund which would likely cover the cost.

City will know the outcome by now

I think a few posters arses have gone.

You are correct, but the narrative coming out of the media, ` The PL will survive` and the FA`s main power broker David Dein claiming the opposing parties should make an agreement, and a suggestive that those who used City as click bait, are changing their tune to hide their complicity in defamation.
