The "which famous person died today" thread

Tragic band. 2 suicides, no money, they must have thought they had it made when The Beatles signed them to Apple even writing a No 1 hit song for them.

But their American manager kept all their money. And the debts spirald out of control.

Decent band in their day too.

Yeah I think the manager was mob connected I'd have been tempted to have the cockroach shot for what he did and the misery he caused
In 1974, Molland split from Badfinger due to disagreements over management, but later reunited with his bandmate Tom Evans for two albums. Evans sadly took his own life in 1983, while members Pete Ham, Ron Griffiths, Mike Gibbins and Bob Jackson have all sadly also died.

In fact, I am still very much alive and run Badfinger here in the UK. Likewise Ron Griffiths is also not 'deceased'.

Can you correct the article ASAP, and confirm the change by email or phone?

My thanks,

Bob Jackson

Jack Vettriano - wonderful artist RIP

We were in a pub restaurant last week and there was a Vettriano print on the wall. I looked him up online and for the first time realised he was Scottish, and still alive. I was surprised he was only 73, we both assumed he was Italian and probably passed away fifty or more years agp. Anyway, I agree his work was exceptional, and sad to hear he has passed away.

Vetriano was a good technician but there was little originality. See, for example, the Singing Butler.
Many of Vetrianos images started life in a reference manual or other work.
From Wiki:

Modelling images used in artwork

In the 1980s, while she was in her mid-20s, Brady modelled for an artists' guide publication. She recalled in 2008 that the studio shoot had paid about £50 for her day's work, at a time when she welcomed the income, with her acting career yet to take off.[25]Photographed in a number of dancing poses, the resulting series of figure studies featuring Brady appeared in the Illustrator's Figure Reference Manual.[a] More than 25 years later, it was noted that one of these images of Brady, posing as part of a dancing couple, was the basis of the main figures in a widely-known painting, The Singing Butler, by artist Jack Vettriano. As stated by Vettriano in 2013, Brady's image had "later inspired [his] most famous painting, The Singing Butler". The identification of the pose study in the Illustrator's Manual with Vettriano's painting led to media reporting that he "owed his composition in part" to that publication. Vettriano, his agent, and Brady herself, have all stated that his work makes use of the image in a way that adheres to norms of artistic practice and was in line with the publisher's intent.[27][28][

Such an all-rounded multi talented individual and legendary Jazz Funk pioneer, an ever present within my crates for sure ...Rest In Beats Mr Roy Ayers ♫ ♬ ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ ♭ ♮ and many thanks.

We've lost a few stars over the last two or three weeks? I think he did a retirement tour last year, or was due to finish this year? Running Away was his go to tune in my opinion but his longevity was a testament to his talent. Reworked Sweet Tears with Nuyorican Soul in late 90s and it was the highlight of the album for me. I was only playing Description of a fool - Tribe Called Quest the other day. Roy's sample still sounded cool even slowed down.
Sad day but he'll live on for years I suspect. RIP sir.
