The "which famous person died today" thread

Sad to read of the death of Andy Peebles. I remember him better at Radio 1 than at Piccadilly, but he played decent music that he was obviously passionate about and that broadened my horizons when I was in my teens. Add to that his committed support of both Manchester City and Lancashire cricket and it made me view him as something of a kindred spirit. Rest easy, Andy.

Another small piece of my childhood gone. He was a lovely bloke, taught us at the indoor cricket school behind the Golden Lion in Withington at the end of the 60’s. Despite being right handed I’m heavily left eye dominant and he used to go mad at me for always bowling round the wicket. What a fantastic Lancs team that was: Wood, Lloyd, Pilling and Clive Lloyd as good as any set of batsmen in the country.

He was by far my favourite fast bowler. I tried hard to bowl like him but never achieved more than medium pace. Lovely guy from an amazing team. As you say, another piece of life/ childhood chipped away. It’s always sad when your heroes pass away. RIP Peter, condolences to his friends, family and everyone else that admired a fantastic cricketer and true gentleman.
