PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Reading a few pages back there, and its the thing that I find funny about this thread in particular.
Kieran Maguire says that he's seen documents that aren't in the public domain on our sponsorship that are "interesting to say the least".
Instead of taking that as a worrying comment in relation to these charges, the vast majority of posters dismiss it and abuse him personally, despite not having seen the documents themselves.

I've said on here before, if you aren't 100% confident that we're going to be found not guilty of all charges, moreover if you aren't singing from the hymn sheet that we've done absolutely nothing wrong, you get abused and shouted down.

Just hope some of us aren't in for a shock when the verdict comes out.

It's just a form of loyalty to the club by people that don't understand the ins and outs of the legal system (myself included) but want to appear 100% supportive - it may turn out to be blind loyalty, but in the meantime a little bit of sabre rattling doesn't do anyone any harm.

I tend to agree with this view.

Whilst I am optimistic of a favourable outcome, the immediate reaction to dismiss, ignore or character assassinate anyone who passes a comment which may imply (vaguely) something negative either in tone or by what's actually said, a bit of a nonsense.

If Maguire had came out and said he had seen some very interesting documents which may support the club's stance, whilst still alluding he can't say any more than that - you can bet the reaction in here would be nothing like what we're seeing this morning.

It does no harm to remain optimistic that 1) Our owners have conducted themselves appropriately, 2) We will receive a favourable outcome in line with that but also remain open minded to alternate views because, again, absolutely nobody other than the panel knows the outcome here.

No, some of us carefully analyse every bit of information that gets posted on here. The fact Maguire has seen a very, very detailed and intriguing document about overstated sponsorships means nothing to me because there is nothing in the description on which to form any sort of conclusion.

The PL aren't going to prove their allegations with very, very detailed and intriguing information. They need evidence that is compelling, convincing and that appeals to reason. If he can say his documents provide that, I may pay attention.

Until then, I am not taking anything that is said on a podcast any more seriously than it deserves to be.

My guess is that some club or another has provided a pet journalist with some of the PL prosecution's documents and he has passed them onto Maguire, much like the APT documentation last year. If that is true, the more interesting question would be why?

If we gave credence to every media commentator that has supposed that we are guilty without seeing anything or supposedly seeing something without providing any evidence to the contrary then we may as well just jack it in before we even start.

It isnt burying your head in the sand behaviour to not give credence to people who dont deserve it and to take solace from a group of people who have done everything they said they were going to do from day one as oppose to listening to a consistently negative media who have shown that they consistently take their lead from our rivals and have very little respect for the truth or facts.

Personally i will always take more notice of an organisation or a person that has a proven track record of backing up their promises, than i do of an organisation or person that has consistently shown to be acting in bad faith or even worse doesnt understand the issue at hand at all or if they do, understands it from a very myopic viewpoint or engages in continuous confirmation bias.

You call it burying your head in the sand behaviour, i call it taking the salient facts and information, matching them with the reputation and history of those giving them and coming to the most obvious conclusion.

and this absolutely explosive document has someone found its way into the hands of football finance 'expert' and nobody else but him, if such a document existed and was made available to to keiran maguire its unbelievable to think that said document wouldnt have found its way to other people who would be far less precious about revealing its contents.

No one can ever explain to me why, if you're so rich with so many business interests that you can gladly lean on them to sponsor your football club, why you'd go through all the hassle and potential illegality of pretending to sponsor a club. You'd just be like "hey, here's an opportunity, I think we should do that, but we need to be careful we don't break the law as my names all over all the accounts" and the people would do that. Obviously. I've spent two years thinking about this and can't for the life of me why you'd do it the illegal way and produce PowerPoints about your illegality.

No one can ever explain to me why these "artificially inflated" sponsorships looked like they were at the top end of fair market value 15 years ago and look like fabulous value now. Where's the fucking inflation?

Agree I can't see what is wrong with asking companies that you have a good relationship with to sponsor your new business.
Football wants to operate a cartel but not to be seen as operating a cartel.

What City's owners have done is kick the door open, invested billions in the club and the surrounding area.
Etihad Airways are now a well know brand, what ever the deal was is clearly good value for money for both City and Etihad. Why does it need some outside committee to say if it is market value.

What benefit would there be in leaking a document showing the club was bang to rights just days (or weeks, I suppose) before an award favourable to the PL is released anyway? Remember we are talking about inflated sponsorships here ....

and if said document existed, why has it not been passed onto the relevant authorities because if that document existing then are accounts are false and we are talking about fraud which last time i checked and IF said document existed then HMRC would be extremely interested and we would be talking jail time, not to mention the ruin of reputations for multiple people and businesses , but keiran maguire said it exists so it must do, but like goldbridge when he said he had a cease and desist letter from the club that never materialised.

I certainly don't believe we are home and dry, but I am taking into account what the club, manager, accounts, certain posters on here are saying.

He just doesn't seem to have much of a legal handle on things, so what may seem to him to be very, very detailed and intriguing may not be particularly useful in any hearing.

I am not changing my opinion on the outcome of the case because of these few words on a podcast. Others can worry more. That's fine. I will just live longer than them :)

It's nothing new, it isn't particularly worrying.

There were documents stolen from us, that 'prompted questions' initially, which is pretty much why the investigation and proceedings are going on.

City have said everything can be explained. Unless he's seen our explanation and decided it's not good enough, then it's not worth bothering about.

It's not about having our heads in the sand, it's about filtering out worthless news and waiting for the verdict.
