Personally, I’m far too invested in the men’s team to attend women’s games, but I’ve watched plenty on TV and got to know most of the players. Unfortunately, I can’t shake the feeling that the team is like the legendary Star Trek red shirts—always making it to the latter stages of competitions, only to be eliminated so the real "main characters" (Barça, Lyon, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc.) can take center stage.
It must be frustrating for the club that the Joie Stadium is so poorly attended—yesterday looked like barely 500 people. I almost went to the derby until they scheduled it for a Sunday night, which seemed ridiculous. If that place were packed, the extra 5% boost could make a real difference in getting them over the line more often.
Not sure if Gareth Taylor had anything to do with losing Weir, Stanway, and Walsh, but that exodus set the team back years, in my opinion. I know this is a bit of a rant, but I really hope they can finally overcome the Chelsea curse—though I wouldn’t be shocked if they lost all four games. Hopefully, I’m wrong, and they have a brilliant run-in with lots of success. If Greenwood and Hemp are involved, plus a bit of a new coach bounce, it could still happen.
Rant over.
