How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Great post and this is fundamentally why many in the North did vote for Brexit. They were poor in the EU and they'll still be poor out of it.

We need to give these people a livelihood and currently we're not, we're doing the opposite and taking it away. Nobody has cared about them because well the plight of the north-east isn't a problem compared to the growing service and financial sectors in London is it?

We're instead telling them to be happy whilst they fight over the scraps of handfuls of jobs to build cars for companies from Japan or work in an Amazon warehouse where the spoils are ultimately sent far away from here.

It's possible for this both to be true, and for Brexit to have made it worse rather than better.

I empathize with that, but it shouldn't be considered a waste. Rather, they were commendable sacrifices. Without the heroism of your Grandad and your great-uncles the last century could have been very different for us; and not for the better.
Thing is my Grandad nor his brother’s had ever met a German nor a Turk let alone want to kill them. As a kid remember my dads older brother telling me about veterans from Great War sat under Alma bridge in the pissin rain with limbs missing trying to make a living selling matches courtesy of a grateful nation. Like I say WW2 had to be fought to rid the world of a great evil the Great War I’m not so sure.

Nissan wouldn't have gone to Sunderland if we hadn't been in the EU. And it's only a billion pounds of public subsidy that's kept them there.

The UK car industry is not what you should be mentioning at all if you are seeking some benefit from Brexit. From the highest production ever with prospects of growth pre-Brexit to around half that now, it's the single daftest thing to quote for why people voted for Brexit.

To be honest mate i don’t believe it to be true that the vast majority who voted to leave believed Farage and Johnson, working people who used to work in skilled manufacturing work saw absolutely no benefit whatsoever from our time in the EU, people usually vote for the status quo so it should have been a doddle for the remain campaign but it wasn’t why do you think that was ?. Majority votes in Labour strongholds to leave weren’t by the over 65s the constituency I live was packed with manufacturing work now next to nothing voted 62% to 38% to leave not returned a Tory MP for over a century. People were genuinely pissed off with the status quo and for better or worse voted accordingly.
Great post, people are sick of voting labour/Tory and nothing changing. The offer from both appears to be austerity, hard times and belt tightening while the super rich get richer. Brexit was probably the first warning that the status quo is unnatractive. The next stage is probably a lurch to the right and something more sinister.

Are you sure British car productions halved ? I know Germanys car productions hugely down but the Uks as far as I know is fairly steady.

Remember saying this a couple of years ago Bob?
Yes Mr Blue, I made the statement with regards to him shorting the market, not his misconduct towards women?
I believe the odeyious twat is to appeal the fca's provisional desision by referring it to the upper court tribunals.

The old trick - call it in ££££'sss and ignore inflation and overlook quantities which is the real indicator - the fact that he acknowledges is it is damaging exports just not as bad as people against it said it would be (in his opinion)

People like Crispin Odey are the real parasites. Ten thousand benefit swindlers armed in proof and living in free council houses do not steal as much of the people's money as the likes of him.

I like to dream of a day when there will be a Committee of Public Safety to deal with his ilk. But this country is more likely to follow the USA and turn into a fascist shithole.

Most EU passports are. Some are also stronger than the Swiss one. Why does that bother you?

Mine seems pretty robust been all over the World especially since City became good and it's still in good nick.

Wait until you get into a spot of bother .... whilst we were in the Eu you could access the Embassy / Consulate of any member country for assistance. No longer the case.

There are 55 countries that do not have any British Embassy / Consulate (admittedly these are mainly small countries or war zones)......but in the past these were covered by any Eu embassy.

When I visit Grand Fenwick I’ll cross that bridge.
