PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Whilst we wait for the verdict we should be reassured by City's business as usual. The charges were brought in February 2023 and the hearing began on Sept. 16, 2024 and lasted for 12 weeks finishing on Dec. 6 last year. In this time, and subsequent to it, City managed to sign Marmoush, and extend the deals of Pep and Haaland, so I think the club knows that the broad thrust of the PL case was unsuccessful. That might have become obvious during the hearing because it is said that the PL had a high bar to prove the charges.

I think that 2 high profile players and Pep have committed their futures to City suggests City were able to demonstrate strong reassurance on the 115 case.

Obviously not guilty on all charges is a city win, personally not guilty on all charges except for non-cooperation is a city win for me. Some may focus on the punishment, is a manageable fine a win? A small points reduction? Or do blues on here hold a much higher bar like a complete dismissal of all charges with a grovelling apology and a successful pursuit of damages?

A 'small points deduction' from City's present position would surely mean missing out on the UCL places. That represents a very substantial financial hit, not a slap on the wrist.

Completely exonerated.
 
Whilst I’ve never been convinced the related party aspect of sponsors was the key element of the 115 charges, I hadn’t previously looked at Abu Dhabi sponsors’ accounts. We can look at Etisalat’s and Aldar’s as both are listed. Aldar since 2011.

Etisalat are audited by E&Y. Aldar by Deloitte. Neither of those firms audit CFG or MCFC.

No City entity is a related party under IFRS according to their accounts. So that’s at least 3 different auditors (also possible/probable that Etihad have another auditor and I’d guess Etihad also don’t declare CFG as related) who don’t assess CFG and these sponsors to be related.

Looks very challenging against that backdrop for the PL to prove all of those professional firms wrong on this point of detail.

If some of the main charges are upheld when the announcement is published the war between City the PL and several PL clubs is about to turn nuclear.

Simon Cliff’s statement on Thursday was a move by City, there is absolutely no doubt about that. Lots more will start appearing.

The whole $6billiom CFG is at the stake here and City’s actions will reflect that !

Only thing I would disagree with is the Haaland contract. Why sign such a long contract and why did he sign it a couple of months prior to the decision. Surely he could have waited 2-3 months before signing a 10 year deal…

Not only complete exoneration but also admission of manipulation/corruption of the PL which led to this unmitigated disaster by --> (insert club names here)
