Having someone with experience to guide them is probably for the best for both player and club, although the cut they take is definitely up for debate.
They probably do have other advisors. It’s not much different to contracting really in IT for example. I pay for an accountant, insurance advice/premiums, personal IFA etc, but for the actual work I use intermediaries who know the firms looking for the skillsets I have and they get paid by the firm, not me.Which is probably why they should fund their own agent from the get go, it's an incredible system really.

Bit of a different scenario but I was in a band that signed to a major label and when going through the contract, we had to get a proper music lawyer with experience in majors, but they cost £500 an hour and obviously we were skint at that point, so basically the label fronted the money...only they didn't, they just whip it out of bands advance. So we did pay, just not directly.
