I just find it baffling that we allow Kev to leave - someone who can still change a game - yet we will probably keep Bernardo who offers absolutely nothing..

And extend Gundogan's contract. Somebody we wouldn't give a 2 year contract to 2 years ago.

Kev was still the leading chance creater per 90 minutes in the WHOLE league this season even before Saturday. People are unfairly judging him off his prime and not how much better he still is than the average player in the Premier League. Nobody else in the league is capable of that kind of performance on Saturday.. NOBODY!

Reports were doing the rounds a few weeks ago that he was happy to accept a reduced 150k a week to secure World Cup football for Belgium. Silly letting him leave in my opinion if that was the case.

I'm cool with the club letting Kev go. It's time to move on. He is leaving a legend but over the last 2 years it has been painful watching him play. I accept he was outstanding on Saturday, but Palace just got battered by Newcastle last night. Can Kev give us that against a top class team or week in week out at his age?

There are reports he would take less cash but it's not been confirmed. We have seen other legends move on. I have no issues with him going to a rival. He's a professional footballer and a family man. He is at a point of his career where he will look at making the best decisions for him and his family. Footballers unlike us generally don't have that tribalism and go wheres best for their careers.

Good luck to him and I wish him all the best.

If the report that he was willing to accept 150k a week was true then it's a no brainer. Phillips, Nunes etc. are on more than that.
He wasn't.

It was bollocks. You think anybody who can leave on a free transfer is also going to accept almost a £250k a week wage cut, just because he loves the club?

It's not about money for City, it's about his inability to perform on a weekly basis due to his physical decline.

He was absolutely abysmal prior to the Palace game. He said he had been pain free for six weeks, which begs the question, why was he so bad for the other five weeks, including his last derby?

Lots of revisionism going on. People have blasted Pep for being too loyal to much of the old guard, to the detriment of our season. Here he is, making some very difficult decisions, and yet he and City are acting improperly?

Kev is always going to have eye catching moments, even playing in testimonials when he's into his fifties, you never lose that.

People moaned when we let Gundo leave for Barca, but it was clearly the right decision, based on what we have seen for over the last 12 months.

Kev has had his time, and what a time it has been, but life waits for nobody. It is an insult to City and also to Kev if we are paying him £200k a week out of sentiment just to play an hour a week, at the detriment to progressing again.

United made this mistake, holding on to Keane, Scholes and Giggs for years too long.

I think the leadership issue has been the biggest issue this season and will be the biggest challenge next season. Walker has gone, if KdB, Dias, Stones and Ederson go there is a huge hole to fill in the team and the squad in terms of leadership. Rodri will be back, but where will the other leades come from?

We will need leaders in the squad when Pep goes as well to maintain direction and momentum.
Maybe it is time for some new leaders. Those you have listed have been in the squad all year and we are on track for our worst finish in the last decade.

Agree with every word of this tbh. The fact that he's not being linked to anyone in Europe despite apparently waiting for offers paints the picture. I love Kev more than any other City player we've ever had but we can't expect to keep a player on more than £200k when his best suitors so far are Inter Miami and Chicago Fire.

He can't do it anymore. Yes he can still produce those big moments every now and then, but they're fewer and farther between - and what happens in between them is detrimental to the team. The plain facts of it are that he can't press from the front anymore which means the team has to reshape itself around him - we can't afford that.

I've already said it in another thread, but us fans wanted to offer Kompany and Gundogan new deals when they left in 2019 and 2023 respectively. Kompany was basically retired six months after he left us and it's become obvious now that we were ultimately correct to let Gundogan leave. I don't see how keeping Kevin benefits us.

Gundogan has extended his contract because we had a clause that did so. No guarantees he's going to stick to it.

All season we have been getting steamrolled by any midfield with a bit of physicality which we are desperately lacking. Kev can be the best in the world at finding a chance with time and space but that hasn't happened in most games and looks unlikely to do so. He is on huge wages, has hamstrings held together with sellotape and by all accounts wants a change.

There is absolutely no chance he's taking a pay cut to stay. That media bollocks is just to make out City are stupid.

The figures don't work for most clubs, also factoring in a signing fee as a free agent, running in to the tens of millions.

Unless a Juve or Milan want a very expensive public relations coup, the suitors will be very narrow.

Sure, Madrid could decide to take a chance because they literally don't have a forward passer of any repute.

The trade off is still someone who has had a terrible injury record, even before the last 18 months.

He literally missed seasons with hamstring and knee injuries, fractured a cheekbone in the final, it's a surprising list.

It has to be a lifestyle decision now for Kev, one he and his family deserve.

America would be his best bet. If a 'big' club does offer him a lifeline, I will be chuffed for him.

I’ve got a bad feeling he’s going to end up at the dippers
He’s got more class than that.
After the shit they’ve pulled over the years, let’s not forget he was in the bus which got bricked by the scum.
I think and hope it’s just 2 bit journalists trying to make a story out of nothing.

I doubt he would go, plus if he did it would probably severely damage his legacy at City.

If he did sign for that lot i think it would be the end of the statue talk and be more of a ya ya training pitch thing lol

I think he will end up in the US. I don't see a Prem club taking the risk outside a pay to play basis. He's a legend but he's also at the end of his career and not reliable anymore. The prem is too fast and physical where as the US league is not nearly as physically demanding. They are also more likely to pay good wages just to have another legend in their league to help it grow.

I don’t think he’ll play for another PL club. Despite his (emotional) comments at the weekend.

He’s always been one to wear his heart on his sleeve and getting him post-game like that and giving him a question like that (typical Fjort) was only going to end one way.

He’ll end up in America IMO. Wasn’t he spotted there recently during a break? At a sports event and put on the big screen? He’s always seemed into American sports (and subsequently their culture) so wouldn’t be surprised if he views it as the perfect spot for him and his family while earning millions.

And playing with Messi? Not having he (Messi) won’t be in Beckham’s ear about it. And not having Beckham wouldn’t already be all over it for the quality and the marketing.

What I will add, is that we may well see him have a renaissance wherever he ends up. We have seen it with plenty of players over the years. IF, and it’s a big if, he gets an injury free run and an amazing pre-season somewhere he may well start next season lean having shed some of his undoubted current timber, and we see him playing brilliantly. It won’t mean it was the incorrect decision to let him go, it’s just the risk we take, and balanced on the probabilities it’s more likely he picks up another injury and has an equally shit season as the last 2.

People like Tevez and Dzeko are classic examples of players who got proper lean and fit in Italian boot camp preseasons and made us look folly for getting rid. Shit happens from time to time.

Kev needs to go, one good performance does not mask how abject he has been in the majority of games recently.

Their wages bill can't take the hit. New deals for Salah and Van Dijk, new signings to make, they aren't giving £50m to a 34-year-old when they even dallied on a prime Salah

They also spent an entire summer getting rid of their old slow midfield to replace with power like Gravenberch, they are not going back and hopefully neither are we!
