I was there that day outside Hurleys sports shop. They had a good 50 odd and it was about a 5 minute tussle in the middle of the road. Funnily enough I got chatting with the 2 pompey lads who took these photos when they arrived at the ground later.

New Podcast on BBC Sounds that maybe of interest to people on this thread ??

Introduction to the series dropped today called HOOLIGANS - going back to the 1970’s and telling it as was from all sides, including the police and the victims, through to now??

Not sure after that when the other episodes will be released??

Tony Bellew, the Evertonian, ex boxer, is the presenter.

I will others to decide if is any good or factual???
Tony, The County Road Cutter?

I know I’m getting in now , but I’m sure we played Chelsea in the eighties and it was an 11 .30 kick , or have them Es in the Boardwalk taken there toll ?

Wasn't a very nice place in the old days the Kippax. Especially when clubs started getting the section towards Platt lane. Bricks were constantly flying through the roof metal work and directly at away fans. Then the bricks would be returned from the away fans and so it went on all game. Every 5-10 minutes someone would be leaving with blood running down there face. I think some older Leeds fans will have some bad memories of Maine road.

Vouchers were given out at a previous game enabling people to buy tickets for that Derby. Anybody could grab a handful of the vouchers and get loads of their mates into the game.
There was a turnstile guy who used to sell them at the Kippax. My dad used get them off him for a box of Bensons.

Big Mal/John Bond era.

Don’t know if they were the Guvnors or not, but there was a really good turnout of lads at Everton, who were all stood together on the concourse at half-time. It was one them. They looked like they could handle themselves. And they would give any other hooligan firms a go.
