Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Everyone goes on about millwall, Cardiff West Ham, Liverpool etc back in the day every fucker came out for city in the lower tiers ie Huddersfield, Bristol, Shrewsbury, Wrexham , stoke etc etc the list goes on. And every old school what was there will tell you they were game as fuck we were a big name and they wanted a scalp I remember quite vividly even though I’m a old **** now having it with Barnsley and the like it was fucking mayhem they were the days

The two trips to Merseyside for the cup ties in 81 were an interesting experience. Never seen City take so many to Anfield before or since massive firm no one taking a backward step, somehow got back to our trannie van in one piece some mates not so lucky. We gave every bit as good as we got equal numbers of blues and scousers arrested, and equal numbers hospitalised. The scousers reward for their win West Ham at Wembley where they kept a very low profile.
The Everton FA cup quarter final later that year just as bad. City had to fight a combined Everton, Liverpool mob all the way from Lime Street to Goodison. After the match racist Evertonians eager to target black city fans. The following Wednesday night the Cool Cats gave them a warm welcome to Moss Side for the replay. An Everton mate said it was the most scared he had been in his life. An old man now I look back at my youth with fondness but can't believe how I would risk my life to watch a game of footy. Mad bad crazy days. CTID
was at the game mate, packed behind the goal and Everton fans chucking snooker balls into us from the section to the right hand side

Those two games were incredibly violent, the game at Anfield was probably the worst violence I have seen in over 50 years of watching the blues, the worry whenever you went to Everton and Liverpool was they used blades. I didn't mind going to Leeds Millwall, Chelsea, because generally it would be fists and feet. The Merseyside police were also appalling and offered no protection. 5 of us would travel by car until that season. After that we would get the train into Manchester and traveled with the biggest mob, either on the special or service train.
razor blades pushed into a potato if i remember correct, wasnt there a period when they were chucking darts?

Love hearing about all those memories Back then you had to have your wits about you even at Maine Road. I loved traveling to away games with City. I was usually by myself most of the time so I could avoid the trouble but I couldn't help feel the excitement and nervousness before and after the game. Having seen the footage the game I wished I'd have been to was the infamous Leeds FA cup game. It was a battle on the pitch I can't imagine what it was like off it.
Before and during the game it wasn't too bad, coming out of the ground was fairly dodgy with half bricks and rocks coming over the wall, pushed my mate out of the way heading straight for him. Managed to get out by walking through the tunnel under the south stand but it was very quiet walking back to the coaches that used to park on the waste ground past the bridge.
Haven't been back to a game at Leeds since.

I remember being in the Kippax in the 70’s and the dippers were wrapping paper around bricks,, lighting em and lobbing em over to us, you could hear em hitting the steel rafters all over the place … Horrible cunts…!
They were also throwing darts into the kippax

Was there, it seemed to go off for ages. City did Cardiff on that forecourt no doubt. We got our coach escorted out of wales by the old bill. Went from the chaddy tavern on broadway
Exactly how I remember it mate. Cardiff got a massive shock near that petrol station, all giving it the big one, then bang, City gave it them. I was also on that coach.
