Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

I have a faint memory of meeting at The Star a few times......was it a dreamView attachment 171637?

Also scrapping at the roundabout where the old scooter and motorbike shop was.
Skreeton and Wooly etc. Serious days.
Was there that day, 86 I think, played Chelsea at Wembley next day! Top mob of City in the star, ragged a couple of pubs going down Chester Rd,couple of reds I know were in one and admitted it was panic stations for them, think a couple got stabbed, they weren't happy in town after, but that's another story.

Same for me, shocking to see him in a rag shirt. Was in their end that day as couldn't get a ticket in our end, (corner of Stretford and utd road) and I went mad for the the lst goal and to be fair I was surrounded by some decent lads who said you really enjoyed that pal, but he careful as your getting looked out. Didn't react for 2nd goal, rags not happy on way out singing Atkinson out.

football in the 70's and 80's yesterday on Instagram had highlights from the 1982 game at OT
City not only had every terrace pen behind the goal but also the first pen around the corner opposite the tunnel never seen that many at Utd before ?

That happened a couple of times iirc

Leeds away pre Cup tie.

In the Peacock and it went off.

Spilled outside onto forecourt next to the chippy.

Fighting in the chippy.

I got the vinegar bottle and squirted it in one their lots eyes.

Squealed like a pig as we jammed the door on his head.

Rough old place.
Going in both tonight before Ice Hockey ....Fish N Chips great from there

All of this bravado and macho talk from the he-man body builder types but let's have a bit of respect for the people like me.

That's right, the cowards.

I was there, week after week doing my bit, standing at the back shouting and bouncing up and down, in fact my shouty bouncing was often commented upon as being pretty much exemplary.

There was that Blackburn away game when I found myself at the front of a charge down the hill, but I was professional enough to pretend that I had dropped a glove. I even pretended to be looking for it as the blue hordes swept past me down the street.

There was no glove.

Reading the few comments, Newcastle infiltrated the City end.

Man City at Newcastle in 1983

It was the NME infiltrating the Man City end just like we did in their end at Maine Road in the same season.

Shocking numbers from City for a big Div 2 game. On their forum they said Newcastle were in their end and they only had 250 to 300. Also they had a hard time in the FA Cup up here in the 70's so never keen to come back. That's why they always put our bus windows out at Main Road and always dodgy there if you were caught in an alley.

They were already in the City end. I was in the old West Stand Paddock (couldn’t get on the Gallowgate that day it was heaving!) and clocked them sat on the wall at the back.

Yet strangely the attendance was 10,000 higher than their previous game, and still lower than the official capacity

Newcastle brought 10,000+ to Maine Road in 83-84 and about 1,300 in 85-86 (as did Sheffield Wednesday)

The last time I attended a game at Old Trafford when City weren't playing was v Everton in 88-89
(26,000 and that's before the Everton fans were calculated)

That's the way it worked in the 80s, but evidently many now-irrelevant 60+ football supporters aren't capable of checking their facts.

I went to Newcastle in 86 just before the World Cup. We ran them all over their house. Lots of fans in a one house town. Good at jumping in fountains if they get to Wembley.

Newcastle have NEVER infiltrated the City part of the Kippax. We ‘weren’t so keen to come back’? Is that why TWO huge firms of City took the piss in Newcastle before and after the FA Cup game in Feb 2002? Haymarket & Central/Pink Lane areas.
