Wolves (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

you can see why wolves were on a winning run prior to this, made us work hard for the win
which in a way shows us our improvement since xmas
not much goalmouth threat from either team tbh
but 3 pts is 3pts and we can sit back and see who drops points
by the way 3 pts behind the all conquering gooners....... ycmiu

Thought we were pretty poor overall. Can’t remember Sa making a save. But only the results matter. Don’t know what Marmoush on the right was all about, it just didn’t work and i’m really confused about what’s happening with Nico Gonzales. Fair play to Kovacic and Bernardo. Thought they were very good.

A soild if not spectacular victory.
Was impressed.with Nunes at right back apart from his last 5 mins where he seemed to have forgottrlen how to pass or control a ball.
Another victory and i think c.league is secure.
Shoen some real determination over the past months.
Great atmosphere 2nd half in sl3 aswell.
Glad I took part in the protest regardimg ticket pricing. Unless more get involved and losemthe 'im alright Jack' attitide I fear that it may fall on deaf.ears. Anyway on we go
I thought Nunes like a few players had a very poor game losing possession repeatedly and he was very ineffective in his attacking role. Both our fullbacks struggled. Collectively we were poor. I don't think we had it in us to attack them whilst being defensively resilient. I couldn't pinpoint an individual but I thought our midfield was unable to support Doku who was our main attacking threat and Marmoush. City were extremely risk averse in the 2nd half. We managed defensive possession very well but it felt weak, i.e., we couldn't sustain attacks even if we wanted to and were wary that if we did take risks, we'd get done on the counter.

We are on a very good run at the moment result wise but performances are not that great. It is good that Haaland and Rodri are nearing a return.

The top 6 is very tight and City could look vulnerable again if results don't go our way this weekend.

I participated in the protest because I thought it would send a bad message if it was ignored but reading the club statement, I felt the protest should have been called off.

An observation re Doku. His pace/threat comes from a standing start and only over a distance of 5-10 yards. When he has the opportunity to break from either the half-way line or just inside our own half he cannot sustain it and his pace is matched by the defenders. It's a bit like watching a sprinter who is great out of the blocks but after 20-30 yards the field draws level/ passes him

I agree. Marmoush was very ineffective but I felt that was because he was left isolated. He also made a lot of runs but we were playing risk averse football at 1-0 and didn't try the forward ball. We chose to pass it sideways. At 0-0, it didn't look good. Wolves were a threat on the counter, but at 1-0 we managed the game very well. You can't remember Sa making a save, but I don't remember Ederson making a save either.

Agreed. He's essentially an explosive player. Wolves double-marked him but he delivered just about the only memorable moment of the match.

The folk memory clicks in and we finish the season like a train.
A bit of a wonky train tbh, but 3 POINTS.
Chelsea have a bastard fixture list, we are very close now.
I don't agree with that. Pep has resorted to a much more conservative game plan to get us over the line. It's not the old City returning, it's a much more inhibited City but one that is probably necessary. Might Rodri and Haaland's return change this?

The fixtures are difficult to read. Will Liverpool perform as usual, will Man Utd and Spurs be even worse? We are close, but we may need to beat Bournemouth at home straight after the Cup Final which is going to be a lot tougher than people think because Iraola plays a very high energy game.

I think we will have to beat Southampton away and then it will be a lot clearer as to what we have to do. We have a little breathing space whereas Chelsea and Villa are under pressure to win every game.

A very tidy performance and a good win, considering the form that Wolves we in .

A nicely taken goal from Kevin and a good solid defensive display from the lads, despite Wolves hitting the woodwork twice.

It was also great to see Manu Akanji getting more minutes under his belt on his way back to full fitness.

we have more chance of finishing second than being out of the top 5 in my humble opinion

The red got worse as the game went on,two corners for City not given, a sending off!!,really poor

My only visit this season to the Etihad last night. Enjoyed the game (whilst wishing at times we created more chances) and i thought the atmosphere was good.

But blimey I travelled via Woodhead. May have been due to a Friday night game but traffic was awful as you got closer to Manchester.

But 3 points!!

Very literal.

I really thought Marmoush should have been in the centre, didn't really do a lot stuck out where he was.

Considering the our form over the last few months I thought that was a good performance overall, yes we can nit pick and point out how it could be better but from where we we've been recently it's a vast improvement.

Few weeks back those half chances of Wolves and hitting the woodwork would of been certain goals and we,d of panicked/crumbled. We just have to see the season out, sit back and trust in Pep, (he's knows what he's doing)- 2nd here we come :-) and next season opefully we're back up and running at full speed.

I think it's a consequence of playing Doku on the left, we need to balance it and play someone wide on the right. Unfortunately Marmoush was put there and not as effective as in previous games where the main width was provided by the full backs. The Doku/Savinho conundrum is one that Pep needs to solve if we are going to challenge next season.
