Morgan Gibbs-White

Good passer, capable aerially despite his height, Bernardo level grafter, has goals and assists in his game.

You seen our midfield and our press this season? We need a player like this lad. We need to be hard to play through again. Rodri will help but who are the ones pressing in front of him? Marmoush, Doku is decent at it when in the mood and Silva(if he stays) that's about it.

I have been seeing so many articles and even posts about how we are really getting 2 midfielders to replace Kev. One the energy guy (i.e. MGW) and another the creative type (i.e. Wirtz)....

This doesn't make sense to me. We have so many players as is:

Rodri, Gonzalez, Gundogan, Kovacic, Bernado, Foden, Marmoush, Savio, Doku, Bobb, Echeveri, Maca

That's 12 names for a maximum of 5 positions. And this doesn't include the likes of Rico or Nico who also can play in one of those positions.

That's 14 names. Even if 2 or 3 left, we'd still have 10 to 12 names still here. We really don't need another 'good' player. We have enough of those. We need an exceptional player who'd be a guaranteed starter and improve the first 11. MGW does not fit that profile. He is more in the mold of a Nico G, Kova, current Gundo and Bernado, ( i.e. a good role player).

IMHO, he does not have a higher ceiling than Bobb, Echeveri, NOR or even Rico.. its debatable that he is overall better currently... And even if he is, the ceiling isn't there. Ao why even entertain this?

The mantra is always 'Trust the process.' but by all indications, this looks like an average idea at best and a terrible one at worst.

I know we need homegrown if the bulk are on the way out.... But this isn't it. I'd rather focus on getting a backup Goalie, and potentially a full sck who are homegrown over getting a role player in the area that's the engine of our machine.

I would keep Grealish if MGW is to be considered a target.

I still don't know how I feel about this one. On the one hand I feel like we should be shopping in a completely different sphere to MGW. But then you see his numbers and trajectory, as well as the fact he's home grown and there's merit to it. De Bruyne is aggressive with the ball and whilst there's no comparison between the two players, MGW brings that energy to the midfield.

The only scenario I want him gotta be when both Bernardo and Gundogan leaves a day prior of his arrival

The question with MGW is whether he will be able to replace the likes of Kovacic, Bernardo or Gundogan not KDB. I don’t see him reaching the levels of Bernardo and Gundogan at their peak but the current versions, is he any improvement? Is he better than Kovacic? He won’t have Kovacic’s career but he might be a better fit for us now.

I think the signings of Phillips and Nunes have really affected how we rate players. Phillips should’ve been a decent signing but his injuries and lack of any self belief meant he never stood a chance. Nunes is technically excellent but lacks the minerals to make it at the top, he arrived as a back up plan because we had a poor summer window. Grealish had 2 good seasons and 2 poor seasons so he’s been added to the perceived poor signings. He has the ability but doesn’t seem to have the focus needed to maximise his talent.

MGW is likely to join in part because of his nationality as he will likely take Grealish’s spot. Lots of blues are unhappy about it but we need English players to replace Grealish. He definitely has ability the question for me is whether he can step up, can he take the pressure playing at the top level. Will he demand the ball or hide like Phillips? He seems tactically switched on and pretty self confident.
I think results and results alone have really affected how we rate players.
The venom on here towards certain players is off the scale when we lose.
It lingers and festers and becomes lore.
We haven't made many mistakes in the transfer market, but there is no way those players being hammered would be treated like they are but for the injuries that crippled a large part of our season, forcing players to play every game, played out of position, playing through niggles, and so on.
