Sycamore Gap tree felled | Man in his 60s also arrested

I think that might provide a clue as to the form the sentence will take.

I previously posted five years; might be a bit lighter than that but will definitely be measured in years not months imo.

I think 5 years would be mad and I'm a tree hugger:-)

I would have them cleaning up wooded areas every weekend for a year. They don't really belong in prison unless there is previous stuff they have done.

I think they will get ( and deserve) longer. Judge has told them to expect lengthy sentences.

if convicted after a trial, my guess is five years.

I make no comment on their guilt or innocence when saying that. But that’s what I think anyone convicted will get. Lots of aggravating features. Plus a deterrent will be seen as necessary in the public interest, so it needs to really hurt.

If convicted, the establishment will definitely want to send a firm message out.
I gather the maximum is 10. How could it be worse than what they did and why only 5? They'd be out in 2, laughing about it.

Whilst these two are a couple of pricks and tbh I hope they get what they deserve.... But it fucks me off that for what they did they could go to jail, yet we have scandals like the Post Office, like Grenfell, water companies actually ruining the environment and no one gets anything. So fucks me off how the rich get away with it.

If I was going to guess, and taking into account the vast majority of criminal damage prosecutions end in a fine, where imprisoned I reckon the average sentence imposed is three months. It’s generally a very petty offence, committed by seriously small time criminals.

But there will be situations where damaging property is especially antisocial or unconscionable, or both, and the sentence imposed needs to respond to that within the statutory ten year limit.

This is one such instance.

Can’t imagine much worse to respond to your question. No one ever gets the statutory maximum btw.

Save the jail money and just use these pictures to teach kids the definition of "local simpleton" for 30 years.
