I’ll never understand how he failed, a technical footballer, match winner, ran every Villa game.

Shame really, he’s won it all but personally will he look back on the last couple seasons and rue wasting his career, he could have been a star player in a more expansive side and more importantly enjoyed his football.

He’s only really enjoyed his football in one season, must infuriate him. Saying that, I’m sure he could have engineered a move away if he lowered his wage expectations.

I get the feeling he’s going to be a big talker when he leaves and say some things about Pep and the club that’ll rub us the wrong way.

Hard getting rid of him without paying most of his wages. There are 3-4 players including him that are going hard to move before their contracts expire

And who's fault is that?

Apart from his fan boys who is really bothered what he says.
It is not as if he has performed at his treble winning season form in his last two seasons.

I’ve never seen a player as loved or highly rated as Jack Grealish by a fanbase, but deliver so little. 4 good months in 4 seasons and people act like he’s as good as prime Neymar. This lad is a stain on Pep’s name, so many people in England say the great Pep Guardiola ruined Jack, Jack ruined himself. I can’t wait for him to leave to play for Villa again and look horrible, so people can see how shit he really is and Man City weren’t the problem, he was

Obviously don’t know what goes on behind closed doors but there must be something Peps not happy with…..I’ve always rated him and never let us down in the games he’s played…..would have loved to see him have a sustained run in a central position…..but Pep knows best, doesn’t he?

Explain why Jack has ruined himself?

By going out more often than most players do this decade, if he played in the 90s his behaviour wouldn’t be a pro tbh. On the pitch, not trying to improve his shooting at all since he’s been at the club, hardly creating big chances and playing the ball back and recycling the ball. Sterling, Mahrez,Sane even player like Bernardo and Cancelo a few years ago would try to beat their full back, Jack just looks happy to be there, even though Pep has said multiple times, that he HAS to score more, take more risks and get more assists. I heard someone say Jack plays like Sergio Busquets but if you put him on LW.

Always thought that he played to Peps instructions….possession football, play safe, don’t take players on…..never been given a free rein in the team….if he leaves I hope he gets the chances he thrives in a team that encourages him to play like he did at Villa….just my opinion

Mostly him, I think this level has generally been a step too far for him.

Partly Pep sure, didn’t help him playing him high and wide, and now he’s gotten the opportunities on occasion to play centrally or more inverted but it’s far too late isn’t it, he’s regressed physically and can’t stay fit.

He was never better than what we had in the middle, prime KDB, Gundo, Bernardo and Phil.

Wish him the best if he goes this summer but has to be the worst money we’ve ever spent, our most expensive signing for fee and wages. Insane what we pay him, for 8 goals in 4 years or whatever it is.

For Christ sake what is this revisionist nonsense? If that was truly the case he would be the first name in Pep's team sheet. Want to see a player who never let us down? Then look at the likes of Rodri and Bernie (at least up until last year).

It's fine if you personally rate a player for whatever reason, but to rebrand that player as one that has put in prime Bernardo performance week in week out is just crazy. This isn't an argument about who built the pyramids, it's not something written in the history books, we are all here right now to witness Jack's performance LIVE and it has been completely below expectations. We can all see it ourselves, claiming otherwise is just ridiculous.

Nothing to do with Pep, this is all on Jack

I think lot of things were down at the time we were not able to get Messi. we were trying for him the previous summer but Bartolomeu didnt let him go, obv an incredible pay package was prepared for him, then next summer he went to PSG and we wanted to shake the transfer world but didnt make the best choice for it to be Grealish.

100m fee, 300K wages, and number 10 shirt for guy who spent 3 seasons in Championship with Villa then promoted and finished 17th, then had one great season but in a side finished 11th then we signed him.
that Villa he was part of was not even close to current Villa side in strength. they were like Brentford-Fulham but without more modern managers, Grealish had basically Steve Bruce and Dean Smith, Tim Sherwood maybe too lol.

to me he is in the Jared Bowen, James Maddison etc. bucket purely football wise (less end product tho lol). now if you take social media and marketing stuff he clearly is a sort of magnet for commercial deals but not because of his pure skills more like personality, looks etc.

I don’t think he ever had the ability to take players on when teams park the bus anyway, more inverted or centrally at Villa he could run into the space that was never there for him at City, and then when you’re playing for counters, it’s much easier to pass the ball into the right players or have an opportunity to shoot based on numerical advantage.

Against packed defences, he’s never had a KDB cross, a David Silva threaded ball through bodies into the box, and he’s never had the pace out wide to create a yard and get to the byline to deliver a cross, nor to cut in and create an angle to shoot.

Wrong man, poor signing, my hunch is Txiki went rogue and Pep never wanted him. I do feel for a time, Pep got the best he could out of his ball retention and other strengths but it’s not been enough.

When he's gone we'll hopefully regret these threads.

All this hot air and empty noise over a lad who's played over 150 games for the club and will hopefully have won eight trophies by the time he leaves, scoring some massive goals along the way.

Could he have done better overall? Absolutely. But was he right there for the greatest few weeks in this club's entire history? Also yes. Did he contribute a lot to those four consecutive league titles? Also also yes.

File under "good signings", give him a 7/10 rating overall for his time here, and move on.

A lad who's not from Manchester and was born and bled Aston Villa, but has clearly taken the club and its fans to his heart. Has never said a bad word about the club, hasn't kicked up a fuss, and took us to immortality in 2023.

The personal vendetta some people have against a lad who's been there for some of the best times - and made them better with some of his antics - is sad. Indicative of the age we live in, that winning internet arguments has become the most important thing to some people.

File under Good signings? Nope. He'll barely warrant a mention when the history of peps reign is written. As far as never saying a bad word about the club. I'd hold fire on that until he's gone.

We can differ, fair enough but I won’t change my mind…..still think he has a lot to offer if played in his preferred position
