The Squad planning thread

Good to a point as it'll free us of the sentimentality of some squad players, but Pep is the one that picks the team not Viana. He will want players he can work with and to what he envisions the team to be, otherwise we'll end up with expensive players sat on the bench or in the stands all season. We're already seeing that a little bit with Reis, who has barely played and at the moment feels like £30m not well spent. I also wonder how much the signings of Gonzales and Khusanov were Viana signings rather than Pep's.
Clearly a team project whether either like it or not. The best for the club will come first for both. Lets see what you both got.

Savona is about to sign a new deal. We've no interest in Hato it seems, think it'll have to be HG option for Stones
He only just signed a new deal in August, then again Reijnders signed one in March. There’s no fanfare about Hato but we’d be remiss not to be interested. The Dutch papers are linking him with Liverpool today, but that is surely less likely if they still have Kerkez as their main target.

Was TuttoMercatoWeb stating he's extend tbf, ive no idea on the reliability etc.

Yeah, Liverpool have followed him for a while, wouldn't be shocked to see them go for both with Robertson and Tsmikas out the door soon. Give them decent VVD cover as well.

Adding a year to a deal that runs through 2029 already. Maybe they're anticipating a bid.
would love a more senior RB in the mix, like the potential of Wesely tbf but i'm not sold on Akanji or Nunes as a RB, i'd avoid either as the starter if i could (oh to swap Jack for Livramento in a pure FM move)

Again, the U18 have been brilliant all year. The “City” way has worked for them for years and it will stay that way for many years to come. To suggest it’s outdated is laughable as you’re basing that off one bad season for City.
So you think the tactics this season have been a success?
Ok then …
At what point do you think something different should be tried? Or should we persist with this? Genuinely interested..

I don’t think the tactics have been the main factor. Injuries, players getting on and the squad being mentally worn out have contributed to the poor season. I’ve said in a thread on Saturday that I would like Pep to change it up and abandon the four CB in defence and get some proper full backs. But there’s not a chance Pep is abandoning his way of playing, it’s been proven to work and one bad season doesn’t prove that this way out of play is out dated.

Think you two have separated on the discussion here, you're talking about the seniors which needs a change clearly, he's talking the U18s who have won almost every game, so they don't have an issue with the tactics or style right now.

Both right.

I’d prefer youth with a high ceiling. I also like Savona and Hato because they have the height and physicality to cope with playing in England and are presumably obtainable at realistically affordable prices.
We need proper fullbacks if they’re to support the wingers and to unshackle the midfield. They’re all currently more frightened of losing the ball than expressing themselves on it, which a proper back four with Rodri would alleviate.

Do people think we're going to try to get Reijnders, Wirtz and MGW? Or just 2?

Talk is we're after 2 full backs and 2 midfielders.

Who are the likely fullbacks? Wesley and Ait Nouri?

Apparently Reijnders is a 100% thing like it doesn’t matter if the club gets both or just one of MGW. So it’s 2+1 I guess.

Fullbacks likely: Wesley, Nouri, Cambiasso some guy from La Liga forgot his name though. Don’t see Kerkez here( a too pure fullback in the eyes of Pep I think)

Trying for all 3, and 2 full backs imo.

Reijnders, MGW, Wirtz, Cambiaso and Wesley.

Why cant we just get a proper set of full backs. A right back who plays right back only. And left back who plays left back only
