The Labour Government

Personally I don't trust any of our politicians but Starmer has just signed a deal with the EU and the UK fishing industry is up in arms about it. They may well have been stitched up by Boris and Farage and now Starmer is selling them down the river.

The fisherman on the news who was criticising the deal admitted that the industry has been decimated over the last 4 years. It’s a bit rich blaming Labour after their industry was fucked up by the Tory Brexit.

The deal is exactly the same as they have now but the length of the deal has been extended so that it doesn’t have to negotiated until double the time. In the meantime, fishing in this country has decreased, not increased, due to previous decisions made by government.

The big benefit now is that it’s easier to sell to the continent on our door step.

Come on, Nigel, be honest. You are just hateful on anything Labour.

As a Conservative voter I have to say that apart from the increase in National insurance contributions on employers rather than employees, they are doing a decent job.
They feel more centre right than centre left.

I think it’s just that we now seem to have a functioning government, rather than the paralyses that we’ve being going through for the last 10 years.

It does somewhat remind me of how the MAGA movement works, with the likes of Dax rejoicing at pain the pain of others.

Strange concept to me, but I’m sure they have their reasons.

Like cold brexit voting pensioners you mean, maybe a farmer even?

Not a day goes by without a staggering lack of awareness from 'ones side'

Are they like MAGA? Most pensioners I know don’t come over like that, you may live in a different environment though.

just so's you know fishing employs @11k people. There is a similar number of tattooists in the UK. Would you get wound up the same if tattooists were sharing their workspace with those from the continent?

The English don't like fish anyway unless it's battered with chips.

I do - I love all sorts of fish and shell fish ( stick jellied eels up your cockernee sparrer though lol ) but I am far from the majority here. I hate how people complain it can be boney - yeah sometimes for the good stuff you need to do a bit of graft

just listening on Newsnight to that city-hating table tennis playing Guardian blister Matthew Syed venting on the trade deal & Lineker with all the expertise and insight of a lobotomised amoeba.

me too (not jellied eels, disgusting but delicious if smoked or barbecued) fish is brain food I was told as a sprat and it's kept mine working for eight decades.

Tinned fish is also a much underrated source of protein and Omega3 - have had several bouts of anaemia and was recently given a diet sheet that recommends it as a quick snack to build up all sorts of good things to help me through - its often looked down upon but I love it

I thought sardines were actually a species of fish for many years, pure joy in their canned form with tomato on heavily buttered toast and a splash of tabasco.

The UK fishing industry relies on migrant labour - it's another job that Brits don't fancy any more.

Not much point catching fish if you've lost your best market.

Salmon and shellfish segments much better off now.

shellfish segments are what our local Chinese takeaway describes as crabsticks I think

the only issue I have found is you are going somewhere - you pull over and pull the ring pull on any fish in oil and arrrrggghhh - shit some spills. You enjoy the fish but wherever you go whoever you meet you KNOW they can smell fish and oil lol - I mean their loss but it is a bastard to wash out of a T-shirt or jeans.

Did I mention I drove 320 miles up from the south coast today and my clothes are in the washing machine as I type ...... you know what happened lol - wife unhappy as they are on their 3rd wash
