Morgan Gibbs-White

I don’t understand those who are labelling him as “average”.

Based on what we’ve seen this season, he would significantly improve our midfield.
He is a great player, way above average and all, but would he get in a Real Madrid starting 11, or Bayern, or Liverpool, or even Arsenal?

I would have him as a squad option, but it's becoming obvious we see him as a KDB replacement (not a direct one, such player doesn't exist). He is the marquee signing, make no mistake. That's why people have a problem with him. I think if it was really 50-60 million quid knowing we have a star player coming in for creativity people would react differently. It will be more like 80-90 million quid, so he is the main guy. The worry is he will be the next Nunes, and I like Nunes at RB, but I think we can all agree he is not at the right standard to challenge for the PL/CL.

MGW is a busy hard working player, tenacious and gets about the pitch. He’s got the quality to improve us. Proven premiership player. A trigger player setting standards of work rate demanding the same from team mates, and can score goals.
This will really upset a few on here that have decided they know better.

He plays in front of Bellingham for me everyday of the week.

I think he’d start more often than not at Liverpool and Arsenal but I do take your point.

i think he gets in the Inter Milan midfield that way its built and how they play from the top teams about. Arguably in the PSG midfield as a sub imo

The question should not be ”will he improve a terrible midfield?”, it should be ”would he start for any other club aiming to be the best in the world?”. Half of the players in PL would improve our team (a bit exaggerated)

No chance mate. 30 goal contributions this season and it's been a meh season for him.

MGW will never touch those numbers, ever.

The guy is a plank, but is a top player.

People forget he is still only 21.
No one will ever forget his age.

Without meaning to derail a thread about Gibbs-White, this is spot on about Savinho. He's really got a touch of Neymar about him. Loves a step over but throwing himself to the ground theatrically every time a defender comes within 5yds is really starting to piss me off. He's not winning free kicks because the officials know what he's doing and have no time for it (rightly so), loses possession with it and spends thirty seconds berating the linesman rather than trying to get the ball back.

Anyway....... Gibbs-White. Don't see it myself. Decent player in an over-performing team. I don't think he's the level of a club who wants to be fighting to win things like we have been the last decade. If he does sign I'm happy to be proven wrong, however.
Any other suggestions mate?

We're not going to be replacing KDB like for like. Impossible. I'd actually be looking to strengthen our wings with a word class winger or two, as I don't think our current ones are up to it, and look for a better return of goals/assists from there.

Sign a 6/8 or two (not Gibbs White), Rodri back, phase Nico into the team and put faith in Marmoush/Foden/Echeverri/Bobb to play the 10.

Agree with this.

I also think the traditional number 10 in football is evolving quite rapidly. The sort of silky play-maker who lives between the lines and plays in the pockets is no way near as common as it was a few years back, and those sorts of "big lads" are thriving in that role. Bellingham, Szoboszlai, etc, seem to be the new blueprint.

Seems to be that the number 10 now is one that can run with incredible stamina, dribble through the middle, press and create. Powerful players. A position Yaya would absolutely thrive in right now.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is that Gibbs-White kind of fits that profile. He isn't a De Bruyne replacement, nor an adjacent fit, but he'll take those minutes because his profile is what the game requires currently.

Bellingham plays for a real madrid team in a wank league that actually plays attacking football. Then u have MGW who plays for a team that has about 25% possession every game. You cant really compare the 2.

Which 6/8 are you suggesting?

It's going to be a long time before I forget we paid more for Marmoush who is older and harder to fit in positionally, than PSG paid for Kvara

That's because he isn't anywhere near as good as people think he is. He is a good player, but that's it.

25 years old and up until this season he was fighting relegation battles.

Bellingham plays for Real Madrid at 20/21 because he is world class and worthy of a top team.

I don't see any other top team fighting for MGW.
