Nice gif. I think it shows more on how Doku passes are inefficient than Haaland’s positioning. It’s not wrong to me to go toward the opposite side to open up the space. If anyone should be in the passing direction it should be the attacking midfielders arriving from outside the box. But fair enough if nobody runs as his pass is very random. He only passes when he cannot dribble any more.
You've got to be kidding me. From where Doku is, that pass is literally the only option. If Haaland turns on his brain, he would know that: dash towards the ball instead to the far post, and you probably get an easy penalty. Besides that, he sees that there is nobody near that space, so he is making space for nobody by hiding behind the defenders. Doku is looking at Haaland the split second before he passes and Haaland decision which direction to run. In that very split second Haaland runs where there is no chance to get the ball. 100 percent on Haaland this one, and I say the majority of the disconnect between the two is on Haaland.

The pass is not the only choice and Haaland going to the near post will get nothing as the angle was covered. Maybe you mean the corner of the small box area, but that will clog that area fully and shooting while running outside.
Here is the screen shot.

After all this time Haaland still has zero anticipation and makes the worst runs in the box. Like seriously where are you going, how do you expect to receive the ball where youre going....
For me there's nothing wrong with Haaland or Doku's actual decisions here really. The problem is Doku kind of scuffs the ball (think he's aiming for Rico's run towards penalty spot).

Haaland is in the right place if he stands it up or fires it across the keeper who palms it out, and his movement is making a lot of space that others don't take advantage of.

Savinho, knowing Haaland goes back post, should probably be doing something else rather than wandering towards the same space, compressing it.

Foden should be darting into the middle of that box of 4 defenders where the ball actually goes, there's two other players behind him available for the pull-back.

If Haaland goes towards the ball (so toward the upper edge of the six yard box) in the exact moment Doku releases the ball (which is the moment Haaland actually makes the wrong run to the back post - talk about misjudging your teammates body position and the pace on the ball he puts, not to mention ignoring Doku's general tendency for short passing and near post crossing, just low IQ stuff), what happens is he gets to the ball first, and most likely wins a penalty due to the defender's momentum, or holds up the ball and lays it to a teammate (maybe even Doku). But Haaland is interested only in putting the finishing touch, and that mindset hurts the offense. The irony.

But tell me what is the other choice Doku has, apart from a backpass obviously.

Back pass is my option. It would be a direct shooting chance. And Haaland helped to clear the space in front of goal. As the other one pointed out, Haaland didn’t make mistake by opening the space. A teammate only makes short passes is not the fault of the receiver. And Haaland moving away from Doku is not a sign of being selfish but rather being unselfish.

No, Haaland moving away from Doku in the exact moment Doku releases the ball, when its clear to him there is nobody else that can get at the upper edge of the six yard box is not a good decision. He clears the space for no one, if there is a potential near post run by another player it makes sense, but there isn't and he should be aware of that, as he should be aware that Savinho is already at the back post. Haaland had the option to move to where Doku passes the ball, where Doku expected him to move. He gets the timing right and the direction completely wrong.

This happens over and over again, this is just one example. There is absolutely no way Doku gets the ball where Haaland is going, there is no one at the near post, and if he passes it back people are like "see, no end product". Thats the problem when you have a striker that only finishes but also only knows how to move on the counter and not in the box.

btw, in the same match Doku passes to him on the counter, again its not the ideal pass, but initially I thought Doku's defender deflects it, but he actually doesn't so its actually a decent square even if not perfect.

Look carefully at the 0:40 mark. Haaland just needs to slow down, take a touch on the ball, and then take a shot with his second touch. Maybe if hes capable of quicker reactions (mentally) he would be able to take the first time shot still if he just stops his run. But he keeps going, again bad reaction. Haaland always wants it only on a silver platter for an easy tap in, well sometimes you need to also do some dirty work to score.

Can’t be and probably won’t be as many games where he’s given such space. Sure it felt refreshing not to look up and see 3-4 players conveying on him.

If we have any desires to be challenging for the title next season we need more from our wingers. Doku once more had a lot of the ball in dangerous positions, but his final ball is not good enough. Same old story.

With the amount of space he had ,should be doing much better .
Not all his fault as couple out times he found players we could not finish

Perfect game for him with all the space to run into and yet again, nothing.

His highlight reel would make you think he is the best dribbler in world football, but it's pointless if you can't deliver at the end of it all.

Him and Haaland have zero compatibility.

Will get another season and be sold next summer in the rebuild part 2 (would probably do it this year for Rodrygo if i could.

Not good enough for a side who usually has aspirations to win every trophy available. No amount of chances or playing time given to him will change that. Decent squad player at best but even then I’m not so sure.

Big big problem.

He is electric and has good moments.

But he has one big thing hanging over him, that while not entirely his fault, still has most blame to him.

He cannot for the life of him find Haaland, he rarely attempts to as well.

Savio atleast tries, even if he frustrates.

Im thinking if Pep wants to make him work, he wants to score so badly but is stuck so wide, he needs the freedom Marmoush gets on the left, rotate between them.

Play him as a RW. He got no goal scoring abilities to waste the left.

As a centre forward in a previous life, my biggest problem is Doku’s unpredictability!

For centre forwards, timing your run is imperative and our wingers simply do not allow any timing. In addition, you have no idea, even if they do get the ball across, if you’re going to get a chip to the far post, a dink into the near post, or a drive across the 6 yd box, or a pullback towards the penalty spot!!

I’m sorry some people can’t see the chances he could create, but it’s a fair comment that based on his potential, his performances to date have left something to be desired. Always dangerous, but rarely a difference maker.
