Morgan Gibbs-White

Imagine roles were reversed and Wirtz had decided to sign for us, and Liverpool were paying big money for Gibbs White, there wouldn’t be a single poster not pissing themselves. I’m not saying Gibbs White is shite,he’s just not good enough for an elite team.
This. The level of trying to talk this transfer up is bizarre. Start of the last two summer windows I doubt a single blue wanted MGW. He’s had a decent season as have forest nothing special but decent and now folk making out he’s a must buy.

It really was t like that at all.
Rice wanted to stay in London and Wirtz has apparently chosen the Dippers.
In neither case are we “saving a few Bob”
As much as we wish, not everyone wants to join us.
I am basing my opinion on the reports that we decided to pull out because of price on rice, wirtz and van dyke not the suggestions amongst fans

They were two of the stars of England U17’s World Cup win. Friendship blossomed from there and maybe sooner.
That’s not the worst suggestion I’ve seen on here recently helping Sir Phil.
Jup let’s pay 70M to make Foden happy ? He is HG that’s the reason

Foden, Gonzalez, Reijnders, Gibbs-White, Gundogan, B Silva, Rodri, O'Reilly looks like a midfield full of running and energy with a bit of old heads and control. Think we are getting way to caught up on "breaking a team down", we don't struggle with that at all really when you look at it objectively, we struggle with the ball coming back at us and our press has been shite this year. That midfield could press for weeks.

Signing a player to make another of ours happy is probably the worst suggestion I've ever heard. You don't spend upwards of £50m on a player so they can put an arm round someone else. He may turn out to be a good signing, but if this is entering the clubs thinking it is destined to fail.

I agree - I haven't seen enough of Reijnders to know how he'd do with the pausa aspect but know, from what I've seen, that him and MGW would add energy, press resistance and wider passing ranges. Adding in the knowledge of the system from Bernardo, Gundogan and the skills of Rodri, Foden and Nico G and you have a pool of options that tick loads of boxes. That's energy, creativity, pressing, press resistance, goals and possession

I get the criticism of MGW and understand he's not the shiniest toy in the box and our last big name English players haven't exactly set the world on fire, and like you I wonder where everyone else gets all the time to watch other teams in other leagues week in week out, but I think that combination of players has a combination of skills that Pep can coach into a team that can compete and is head and shoulders above what we started last season with before you add in injuries.

Let's look at the success rate of our homegrown signings in the last 10 years:

£100 million for Grealish
£50 million for Sterling
£50 million for Walker
£50 million for Stones
£45 million for Phillips
£41 million for Ake
£12 million for Roberts
£8 million for Delph

Of those, I'd say only Phillips has been an unmitigated failure. Roberts never worked, but he was cheap enough for it not to matter. Every other player was a key part of at least one title winning team, and in most cases, multiple title winning, record breaking teams. Despite this, I'd struggle to name a player on that list other than Delph and Roberts who wasn't dismissed as way too expensive by a lot of fans when we bought them.

The fact is that we need a new generation of homegrown players if we don't want to go into the season with a tiny squad, and we haven't bought any that worked since 21/22. Walker is leaving, Stones and Ake are never available, and Grealish has forgotten how to play. We need a new core of homegrown players for the next 5-6 years, like when we bought Sterling, Stones and Walker in consecutive years. Obviously some of those will be from our academy, but we should be looking at the likes of MGW, Branthwaite, Wharton, etc. Not just because they're good players, but because they give us flexibility when signing the best overseas players too. If you've got a solid core of homegrown players who are good enough to start most games, it means you're not constantly having to worry about who has to make way for that next overseas signing.

I think my only concern with MGW is the fee/value (I think it will look daft to say Wirtz was too pricey and sign MGW for £10-15m less). The articles earlier in this thread show he has the tactical intelligence to adapt to different systems in-game - bodes well

Wouldn’t be £10-£15m less though would it? The wages alone would be £50m over a 5 year deal (400k per week vs 200k per) plus all the other stuff so probably closer to £100m diff all in.
MGW has looked like the engine we need in the games I’ve seen him - him, Rodri and Teendjers would be a hell of a midfield 3

I watched him against Chelsea and honestly, he didn't impress. His play was a bit sloppy, which might be acceptable in a less possession-focused side, but it would be glaringly obvious in our team. Also, his final ball isn't sharp enough for a number 10, and deeper in midfield, we already have Rodri, Gonzalez, and Kovacic who are all better.

Read my previous post and don’t twist words.
It could be a Bi-product of signing imho a very good player.
It wasnt even my suggestion leave alone anyone passing it as the clubs way of thinking.

On the fence i guess. I see his positives and can admit the annoyace that is his snide factor would be something Id maybe be okay with on our side vs. playing against.

Not sure if he's the world talent I hoped for but with Dutch Reindeer (presumably) and Rodri added... there's your top class right there. He's also 25 so being surrounded by more talent he would potentially be less pressed to be the go to he is expected to be a Forest and really shine.
