Yeah, that's what I was thinking. More of a replacement for Gundogan than KDB. We're a team that's aiming to be challenging for the Champions League again. The number 10 in a Pep team really has to be one of the best creative/technical players in the world with world class vision and passing. I don't see us building a team around MGW's passing range like we did with KDB and before him David Silva. If anyone, it'll be Phil Foden, but that will rely on him getting back up to speed for next season.
The other key question is his press resistance. I can't say I've watched him too much, but how is he at having the ball fired into him while holding off a defender? That's was Kalvin Phillips' main weakness for us. He couldn't be trusted to keep the ball. If he can't do that, he'll just end up being shifted out wide like all of the other players who aren't quite up to playing in the centre, and we already have shitloads of players out there.
Agree with almost everything you said, the only part I disagree is that I think Phil is also a different profile from Kevin. Phil is a better dribbler and can play on the wings, and the speed is more of a goal threat than a creator like Kevin was. I think Phil needs someone who can create and score to help the game open up for him as well.
