Incident at Liverpool Title Parade May 26th

Not all 53 year olds look like OAPs you know. If the police have announced he was the driver, other than them blatantly lying, then he was 53 regardless of what he looked like. Unless you buy into conspiracy theories

I wasn’t suggesting there’s a conspiracy. I was just confused when the police confirmed the driver was 53, why there were multiple videos of a clearly younger man driving the car.

But that mystery may have been solved. The suggestion now is that all those videos were of a police officer driving the vehicle away after the incident.

Although I’d have thought they’d stick it on a truck. But who knows?

To be honest, the football club should be paying any and all extra costs for a parade like this (as should any team doing anything similar), every year. Councils don’t have enough money to pay for aunty Mabel to have her arse wiped and the police are currently being told to ‘find savings’.
I don’t know how the costs are split for events like this, and despite the fact I agree with you to some extent, couldn’t any football club in those circumstances point out they already generate a huge amount of income for their city across the course of a season?
I’m sure the teams on Merseyside, esp the team in this case with their worldwide appeal and European fixtures, bring a big economic boost virtually all year round.

Not sure the council or the police will be benefitting although local businesses will likely do ok.

Yes, football clubs must always generate more work for the police. Though those at the stadium are paid for by the clubs, I don’t know whether forces also charge a premium to the clubs because of possible wider impacts in the closest city before and after matches on the day.

There were people fighting the police to get to him. That wasn’t out of concern for anything other than retribution. I can understand people feeling like that but once the police were surrounding it and controlling the situation I would have hoped that the emergency services would be left to get on with their jobs and helped as much as possible. There were still people under the car FFS.
And at least one man got in the car, adding weight and movement while people were trapped underneath.

The road was closed. They opened the barriers for an ambulance to get it, so it could deal with a heart attack victim. The car has tailgated the ambulance.
The post you've quoted perfectly highlights the total fuckwittery of this thread and probably social media in general on this and similar events.

Just seems a shit show!!

I don’t think this guy set out to injure, but by taking drugs and driving you make that choice and you live by that choice.

I don’t think it should excuse the other factors if they have played their part.

That however is for the police to decide and will go off what the driver says.

Drugs in his system or not if he has panicked because of the mob, then they have their part to play.

Was he there for the parade and partied and decided to drive, thought following ambulance could get a quick exit and then it all started.

Or was he waiting there, getting ready and took his moment to get in and then deliberately started trying to hurt people.

I think we’re keen to understand.

They said the 'barrier' was a stationary vehicle which they moved to allow the ambulance in. So not as straightforward as someone moving fencing and putting it straight back once the ambulance was through.
Maybe helps explain how he was able to tailgate in.

The post he quoted was mine. I would still say any competent copper knows how to operate a roadblock. So simply the fact the car which wasn’t the only one was on the street is a failing of Merseyside police as either an organisation or an individual copper being fucking shite and incompetent. If you’re operating a roadblock you have one job to do and it’s not a particularly difficult one.

Have you how little the clubs pay towards policing each match. All the money in football and they don't foot the entire bill.

How about a little compassion for the cop - they don't know how to control victory parades as their last one was in the dark ages. Wouldn't mind betting the bus drivers asked "Fares please" as the squad climbed aboard.

Stop this ffs. There are no videos of a clearly younger man driving the car. You have a side profile of the driver briefly with the door open and one taken through the window glass. They do not show a clearly younger man driving the car. I don’t know what you think a 53yo man looks like, but they aren’t all washed up and overweight.

Who has suggested it was a police officer driving away after the incident? Some clown or Russian bot on Twitter?!

Social media, specifically Facebook and Twitter, has fucking fried everyone’s brains.

I wonder if the council took short cuts to save on costs ? It is a very long route. To put in place what you say should be there, means the costs are prohibitive.

When we hold parades or event and we have road closures we as a local council foot the bill.
We even have to pay for the parking pays for the length of the closures. We pay for marshals, a road closures company.

I would think the costs and paperwork, RAMS etc would be down to the event organiser ie lfc or the company lfc hire to run their events. They paperwork would be signed of my the council and police, I think !

We only do small parades/road closures but the under cover anti terrorist police always turn up to check !

I think it was Gordon who also said that social media has fucked us-he's right-people believe the utter nonsense that is peddled.

Police are taught to use R v Turnbull when taking witness statements because witness accounts are not always what they seem and can be fallable. That includes visibility, observation time, obstructions-and as you then say from those clips you can't say what age he is.

As for driving the vehicle away he mustve missed the huge inflatable tent covering it.
