I haven’t seen Mullock confirm that story, but let’s say it’s true.
It shows he didn’t sit on it. He wanted to publish and would have published had he been able to. Presumably in this scenario it could be some sort of injunction.
But anyway, it most certainly wouldn’t have been because Mullock was protecting a source under some kind of moral code, as is the suggestion in this thread.
We also need to consider the order of magnitude of these stories and public interest. Contrary to opinion on here, the hacking story wasn’t that big, certainly in the context of the 115 case.
If Mullock had the scoop on 115 and he and his newspaper 100% certain it’s true, I dare say they go ahead and publish anyway and deal with the consequences later.
And if we’re at the point where it’s going to court with the premier league taking out injunctions against the MEN to prevent publication, you can bet your bottom dollar it would have leaked fast and wide.
If the MEN has this story, it gets published, so I don’t believe they do.
