Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Slightly off topic.

The live entertainment giant which co-owns the UK’s largest indoor arena, Co-op Live, is looking at building up to two new venues in London at a cost of around £1.5bn.

Speaking to City AM, Oak View Group (OVG) chief executive Tim Leiweke revealed plans for up to two arenas are currently being considered with the capital being classed as a “high priority location”.

The venues would be more expensive than the £450m OVG and City Football group shelled out to build Co-op Live in Manchester and would also be larger than that arena – which is currently the largest in the UK.

Asda looking to sell a number of stores and lease them back. They are deep in trouble!!!

Just wonder if they might now be looking to sell and not want to lease back Asda Eastlands

The PTI’s, when I was in the Army, would have salivated over those mounds…up…down…up…down…I remember doing my Detachment Commander’s course in 1986 at a place called Birgelin in Germany. The PTI we had took us on a run to see his “hole” which was an old quarry. We stood at the top and could see these bushes. As we clambered down and then up, it turned out they were trees!! Never been so fit in my life as I was then!!

Some news regarding travel in Greater Manchester which over time might impact travel to the Etihad. There is some investment in transport infrastructure in Greater Manchester including an expansion of the Metrolink out to Stockport, money for the bus network, a new Manchester-Liverpool train line and an underground main line platform at Manchester Piccadilly. More details here: https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...eeves-announces-156bn-31783728?int_source=nba

I think the only bit of this that might affect the Etihad is the Sandhills stop at Collyhurst - but only if they open up and improve walking routes through to New Viaduct Street and beyond. Even at that it is 30 minutes and the same as the walk to Monsall or Central Park that very few people use.

I dont understand how extending to Stockport via East Didsbury improves anything when Stockport already has good rail and bus links into Manchester and the tram still goes through the bottleneck at Cornbrook.

Is that on the site opposite Mary D's?

I’m still waiting for details on the design of Sandhills as to whether they’ll want football fans walking through it on matchdays tbh. It’ll be good for Bury line travellers if they do as it’ll be an improvement on crawling through town only to walk the rest of the way.

I often wondered though if it was possible to run trams from Bury through the Queens Road depot, then changing direction onto the Rochdale line to utilise Central Park a bit more. Seems cheaper than a new stop and CP is well designed for large numbers.

I don't think there are any specific transport initiatives that will directly affect the Etihad but the plans for the public investment are summarised in a Greater Manchester Transport press release (https://news.tfgm.com/press-release...grated-zero-emission-public-transport-network). This references Metrolink, tram-train and electric buses.

We will need an expansion to the Matchday bus network when the new stand opens.

I agree , when complete it will probably take around 60 minutes to get the tram from Stockport to Manchester!
When currently u can use the train which takes around 8 minutes?

I'll make it brief as its off topic, but you could argue that the whole way along that line from East Didsbury - plenty of trains from East Didsbury, buses galore in Didsbury and Chorlton and so on, but it does get passenger numbers happy to travel either part way or all the way to Manchester and beyond.

There's also a political element, which jrb may know more than me about, but all the GM councils contribute to the fund that supports Metrolink, but Stockport doesn't have any actual metrolink service - something the council are quick to point out frequently.

I don’t disagree with anything u say ,it will be used ! ,it’s just that I think the money would be better served elsewhere on the network ,but I suppose any investment wherever should be welcomed ?,
