Holidays

Lot of reports this year of horrendous passport queues on entry at some airports. Faro was horrible last summer and just read an article about Tenerife earlier this month.

Any more bad ones ?
Nasty queue to get through security at Harry Reid T3 (Las Vegas) on Sunday afternoon, worst I've seen in a long time - in fact its been 3 years since I've seen it that bad, post-Covid at Manchester T2 before they sorted their sh*t out.

Took the kids to Portugal last week and went through faro
Booked the flights very last minute so had a stop in Munich, we only had a 1 hour gap between landing and the next flight so I was a wee bit panicky when we had to queue at passport control in Munich for about 10 mins, caught out flight no bother.
Got to faro and seen hundreds if not thousands in the queue for passport control and thought we were being shepherded to the end of the queue, little did I know that as we had done passport control in Munich we didn't have to do it in faro! Straight out the door!!
Read an article saying there have been three hour queues at faro, it looked fucking horrendous when I seen it
We had a great holiday in Lagos last year but will not visit again until they sort out that fucking Faro airport. Talking to regulars in the endless queues it seems being herded like fucking cattle is now the norm. Getting out was even worse - we almost missed our flight which was completing boarding as we joined the end of a huge line/crush. Literally hundreds of people let us through and especially a big group of about 30 Irish lads at the front actually cleared a path for us otherwise we’d have missed the last flight of the day. The experience WAS horrendous - thank fuck for kind and decent people.

Just got back from Valencia, beautiful place
Did you go to the City of Arts and Sciences?

I love all the historic cathedrals, walls and fortresses in Spain, but the City of Arts & Sciences is one of the most amazing pieces of architecture I've ever seen.

You’ll have a great time with that upgrade, don’t forget to give Ronaldo’s statue the finger!

We did the wine tour in Madeira, that was pretty good for a couple of hours and also took a bus up to the top of the Island, you can get one of those Wooden Sledges back down the hill if you’re felling brave enough but you get a “driver” to steer you down.
Hehe expect a WhatsApp piccy of me doing the finger in a City shirt.

We weren't too bad on the way back, maybe 20mins tops queue, I did find it weird when we got to Manchester and the passport guy just looked at the passport and said yeh your ok mate, no machine, didn't look at the passport and then us, nothing just off yer pop

Drink is not cheap in Malaysia :-( The only place to get cheap drink in Langkawi which is a duty free island, makes a big difference to the drink prices. There was a UK guy in my local complaining that the price of a pint was the same as London, the prices in that bar are average for KL.
The £6 bottle was in the Traders Hotel which you recommended and was a cracking place to stay, the view was worth the £6 on its own!

That whole park that stretches for a couple of miles is ace
It is. The river was diverted due to a flood years ago and what's left is that beautiful park with the stone bridges across the former river intact. Walking along the path to the City of Arts and Sciences gives you an incredible first view of the place.

We didn’t unfortunately, we just tried to cram everything in to our 3 days there and never got the chance, Same with the aquarium but we would definitely go back, we walked for miles when we were there just exploring (and eating and drinking of course) I watched your podcast on YouTube re. Valencia, very good!

Malaysia is pretty strict on bringing booze in as well ... all the suitcases seemed to get x-rayed.
We got fined for an extra bottle of spirits..
They aren't daft though they have a duty free shop just as you pick your case up in Penang , must catch a few first timers that way.
I take it the price is due to it being an Islamic country ?

It was awful last year. Can’t believe they haven’t sorted it. Put me off going back.

@RadcliffeRick recommended the hotel where we stayed in KL but as he and you say it’s quite expensive for drinks, I only had one good day/night there, was taken ill for the final 2 days/nights and had a 24 hour journey home to look forward to.

Thankfully the hotel, The Traders (great value and definitely recommended) which is opposite the Petronas Towers gave us a late check out of 5pm for a nominal fee so we went straight from there to the airport, it was the worst journey of my life total 8 hours waiting in airports, 15 hours on 2 planes and cab rides. Got home on the Friday and went to the match v Newcastle Saturday, was absolutely wiped out and gutted at missing part of my holiday.

However, I wouldn’t put anyone off going to KL, it’s a brilliant City and the people are really friendly, I’d like to return and see more of the country but at 66 years old that flight is gruelling.

Anyone have a recommendation for a great all-inclusive hotel in Europe that really delivers when it comes to kids’ entertainment? I’m open to pretty much any location—just looking for somewhere that keeps the little ones happy with fun activities, maybe a kids’ club, pools, and shows. I’ll most likely be booking the whole package through hotwire, but I’d love to have a few solid ideas in mind before I start browsing. If you’ve stayed somewhere that truly made the trip easier and more enjoyable for the whole family, I’d really appreciate the recommendation

Bonaire, cala bona.
On the more expensive side though but you get what you pay for as they say

Currently in nashville.
5 of us landed on Thursday tea time and i was the only one of us that got the suitcase.
Aer lingus left 65 suitcases in dublin.
Still waiting for them now at Saturday dinner time.

Golden Taurus Aquapark, Pineda de Mar, about 40 miles north of Barcelona.
Our home from home. Very lively and wall to wall entertainment. Been over 20 times. Here’s our guide that we made a few weeks ago.

They’ll probably arrive by the time you are heading home ..to be fair 65 suitcases between 5 is a bit much ;-)
