45 | Abdukodir Khusanov - 2025/26

And how many games did we lose during those months? That period was the most consistent we had been all season, didnt we have a 10 game unbeaten run? the defence looked signficiantly better, even borderline solid and we were winning games. You dont upset that rhythm to bed in a 20 year old that had a couple of dozen professional games under his belt into a side where nobody can communicate with him properly and Its madness to suggest it. Assuming Pep was mad and was willing to break up a winning defence he had been searching for all season, who are you suggesting he should have replaced during that period? There was widespread praise for the gvardiol and dias partnership during that period.

He got the same number of starts in this tournament as Ake, Reis, O’Reilly and Lewis got. Dias, akanji and gvardiol got 1 more. Not exactly cast out into the abyss. In his one start, he was booked and so taken off early as all our cautioned players have been and looked erratic in that hour.
Didn’t Pep break up that partnership in the cup final which we got beat and at Southampton where we stunk the place out ?. Get what you’re saying about last season and bedding the guy in but already in these friendlies pep is still picking his favourites and that is worrying for next season .

I agree, he has his moments. But a Ruben Dias in poor form is a better option (for now) than Khush
Is he though? Or is that you thinking that because Khusanov doesn’t get constant or any game time? young players will definitely see what the club is doing with those we bought in January and might change their minds before joining this club. This „ too young „ thing doesn’t makes sense anyways when looking at psg and Barcelona. Even inter is about to restart by getting an 18 yr old starter CB

Right now, we're screwed for pace when Dias plays - and like it or not, we're a high line, high press, side. Pace is essential for our center backs.

Khusanov has pace to burn.

Frankly I'd rather see Khusanov start than Dias against top sides.

Khusanov has a lot of room for improvement in his game - but he's young and may do so. He's not the perfect CB at all - but his pace erases many of his errors.

One has to have a lot more than pace to fit in Pep's system. Let's hope Khusa has it in him.

I think he is currently overrated by our fans due to having attributes they appreciate and lacking attributes whose importance they underrate. I wouldn't be surprised if we decide to loan him out. Pep seems to rate Reis's potential higher.

You may be right about Khusanov - or not. I haven't seen enough of him to be sure.

What I am sure of though - is that our CBs need pace and Khusanov has that. I honestly would prefer that Khusanov start ahead of Dias - with Gvardiol as his partner.

If he stays, he will get chances. Let's hope he lives up to the expectations.

You're right, I'm the imbecile who thinks Pep knows what he's doing, and you're the genius who thinks he doesn't.
No you're the imbecile who thinks me criticizing Pep for some of his decisions means that I hate him.

Yeah but Pep had absolutely no problem upsetting that rhythm by changing the defence for a cup final just so he can play his boy Akanji, go ahead and try to explain that to me.

I'm afraid that Khusanov has developed a fear of making mistakes and looking unworthy. As far as I understood from watching his last games, he prefers simple passes and not going on the attack, than to risk and lose the ball. For a young player, this is detrimental if you don't give him confidence.

So your argument against me saying you dont change a settled, winning backline, is to point out an instance where he did that and we lost? How is that not strengthening my argument?

potentially yes with game time.

But he is still wet behind the ears in terms of learning the game, rash challenges, yellow cards, out of position too much etc.

He will be a great defender in next 12 months with furhter development under Pep and hte coaching staff

Do you have any evidence Pep rates Reis higher or have you just made it up in your head?
