Morgan Gibbs-White

Extremely arguable that he has more potential, Gibbs White had a significantly better time at Sheffield United on loan than McAtee and has since gone on to prove himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the league.

McAtee has it all to prove, a good youth tournament, following a middling couple years on loan, and a year at City where he was regularly anonymous with the odd flash of promise?
Agreed. I think a fair number of blues still see McAtee as some young kid, with little to no 1st team experience. Yeah, he looked like he had great potential in the youth team but that was a fair few years ago now. He’s had plenty of games in the Championship and the Prem and I’ve seen little to no improvement. Potential is one thing, fulfilling it is something else entirely.

Bit of a shame really.May just fall short of the required standard that we need. A good little player though.

What has Gibbs-White done?
Are you on about trophies or what, seriously?

Being one of the best in his position in the league is impressive, playing for England is impressive and dragging Forrest to the brink of Champions League qualification is also impressive.

McAtee has looked bang average on his loans and has only ever looked a player in youth football or against lower league opposition in the cup.

It would be if he was.

playing for England is impressive

I guess that's relative. If you or anyone else on this forum had played for England I'd be impressed.

Btw, he made his England debut last year, when he was two years older than McAtee is now.

Good point. That probably is the best thing he almost achieved.

Again, it's hardly an impressive CV, is it? If his career ended tomorrow you wouldn't say he'd achieved a whole lot.

Reminds me of a James Milner type very useful but not elite level.

McAtee should be given another couple of seasons before final judgement is made. Some players like Phil Foden bloom in their early 20's while others don't come fully of age until they reach 25 or 26. If he does improve it now seems likely it will be away from City.

If we only ever signed players who’d achieved big things before coming then we’d still be a mid-table side. We’ve never been one to chase ready made stars in my opinion.

I do agree but I think it's better for his own career for him to leave. We're holding him back.

Mate, this is why City insert buy back & sell on clauses. McAtee needs regular top level first team football. From what I've seen, City have several better options in his positions, so it's best he be allowed to develop & prove himself elsewhere.

He's had more than enough opportunities to prove himself, but Like Palmer before him, he's failed to consistently impress.
