Elon Musk

The members of his new party will be forced to wear big furry hats and be referred to as Muskovites.

Tony Hart: served with the Gurkhas, designed the Blue Peter logo/badge, bafta winning educationalist, disability access pioneer, married to the same woman for 50 years. Would that Musk was half the man Hart was.
Can't argue with that and became a little more knowledgeable about the man

Tesla earnings are due out tonight. Will cover the period April to June so pretty much Musks low point in terms of involvement with Trump and the backlash. You also have the Trump tariffs in play although that's probably a slower burn.

His last report was a big drop. Revenue dropping to sub $20bn for the first time since 2022 although q1 is usually a low quarter.

Market consensus is a rebound to circa $21-$23 bn in sales. This time last year they did $25bn.

Let's see how it goes....

I think that Tesla will eventually go bankrupt, because:
* Buyers of electronic cars are politically left-leaning - whereas Musk is clearly right-leaning;
* Tesla's automated driving technology is based solely on cameras - whereas competitors incorporate lidar. Camera-only automated driving systems are at a huge disadvantage to the extentent that a camera-only automated driving car is likely unsafe to drive in automated mode given current technology;
* Tesla's cybertruck is a huge fail; glue-on panels are flying off; the stainless steel exterior is subject to smudges, fingerprints and other minor annoyances - which, on a stainless steel exterior, make the car look dirty;
* The cybertruck is prone to get stuck in rough terrain where conventional trucks would not.

Might be a while

Might be a while

The stock market knows far more about Tesla than I do - and Tesla shares are still- IMO - vastly overpriced. That's my uninformed take - but who knows? - there's obviously other factors in play that I'm missing.

While I whole heartedly agree camera only is a mistake. While xAI isn’t training models with the massive GPU stack they have, they are using them to create millions of road condition scenarios to train the self drive with. It will speed up the training a lot.

LiDAR tho adds a whole other dimension to it and can see a lot cameras can’t in a lot of varying scenarios, be it sun glare or darkness. No blinding headlights getting in the way etc.

The cameras do work really well at night as they've tuned the software recently. The only time I have got camera errors is with the low sun in winter but then there are multiple cameras. My car is 3 years old so they've probably improved the hardware on the newer refreshed models as well.

The biggest problem with self-driving is the expense, nobody is going to buy a £40k car and then spend an extra £7k for self-driving.

It's also illegal to use self-driving unsupervised (ie, you need your hands on the wheel) so for £7k it's a crazy novelty given you already get a form of steering assist for free. With steering assist the car basically has limited self-drive on motorways and A-roads but you need to have your hands on the wheel.

Camera's will probably do an OK job in the end, and im sure they will get there eventually. as lets face it, camera full self drive is just emulating human vision, but that has the same limitations as human vision.

LiDAR add's a level above human vision that gives the potential for better driving than a human could do, they could drive in pitch black with no lights around or on the car for example.

it does feel that full self drive might the be the car equivalent of Fusion. its been a "its a few years away" for ages

This **** has gone a bit quiet since his six month ket bender abruptly ended.
I said this a while back. He turned up at the White House with a literal black eye, gets booted from DOGE and then basically disappears. No way he didn’t get his card marked. Trump is basically a thug and not beyond ordering the odd duffing up.
