Holidays

Anybody in the EasyJet flight club? Just a heads-up in case you don't know about the changes.

It's a perk that was offered years ago when you spent so much with them in one year. We somehow managed to qualify about 7 years ago and have been able to change flights as and when we wanted since then (no fee, but you pay any fare difference). It's not been open to new members for three years now but they are also changing over to a new loyalty programme.

I phoned up a few days ago to change both date and route and they won't let you do it any more. They do allow date changes, which I managed to do, but it has to be on the same route as the original booking.

Where my uncle was blown to pieces on the beach thanks to Winnie.
That’s why we were there. Tracing my wife’s dad’s footsteps in Anzio. We hired a historian guide to take us around all the important sites for a day. We also visited the Anzio beachhead museum. Her dad was in the first landing on Peter beach that was completely unopposed catching the Germans by surprise.
It all went to hell after that for months.
I can recommend BBC iPlayer Gary Lineker My Grandads War. His grandad was a medic at Anzio. He traced what went on. It’s harrowing.

It was a disaster.

Only because the Yank commander, Clark, had no balls and would not push to Rome as soon as they landed. They could have got there unopposed as a jeep did but he dug in waiting for reinforcements by which time Kesselring had got crack German reinforcements brought to Italy. Churchill was livid at the lack of tactical acumen by the Clark who was later sacked for his lack of leadership.

Sadly there's none of my family left who could give me more information. I have my uncle's record of his death somewhere I'll dig it out.

He was on his way home due to an injury. The family couldn't wait to welcome him. On the way back the powers that be diverted him to Anzio.

I spent an hour at that cemetery.
Very moving and upsetting.
So many of them teenagers still. Officers 24 years old as well.
In fact we turned down the offer to visit the other cemeteries because I found it too upsetting.

Decent restaurants etc etc mate yea? And lower end eateries if the needs arise?
St Julian's is the fancy part of the island, lovely views, nice restaurants/bars etc and probably where you're going to spend the most but there are cheaper options in the area.

But Malta itself is pretty small and easy to get around. We stayed in Sliena which isn't as nice as St Julian's but still nice in its own right, and very easy to get over to Valletta where there's more going on.

Just back from my first trip to the Lake District! The area around Windermere is stunning the town itself was rammed with people so don’t stay long, way too many for my liking, I’ll visit in October when all the tourists have fucked off. Now I’ve got my van I’ll be going up there on a regular basis.

Give Keswick, on the edge of Derwentwater, a try at some point.

If you’re going with your partner don’t forget to buy matching cagoules to blend in with the other tourists.

I personally find the Lake District a bit bland but I like City breaks for short holidays where there’s much more going on, water and sheep just doesn’t do it for me but each to their own.

what have I missed? I shouldnt need it at the Rental Desk at El Pratt AFAIK
SET alliance - Sud d'Europa contra la Turistització say Hi. Normally found trawling the Ramblas, suprised they haven't had a few scoops of the amber nectar lobbed back at them.

Off to Cala Millor next week, although Majorca is very much our favourite destination as a family we've never been that side of the island for some reason so looking forward to it. Anyone been previously and any tips as to what to do?
