UEFA Women's Euros | England win final on penalties!

I'm trying not to be a dick about this, I'm genuinely intrigued.

In each of the knock out games and in the media every day since Sunday, I've heard time and time again how Chloe Kelly lead England to Euros glory and is the darling of the sport. What am I missing? Why was she on the bench for each of the knockout games then?

Am I alone in finding this massive hype and over-celebration a tad excessive?
OK, so they won a tournament and let's praise them even though they stuttered s few times en route to the title.

But the coverage on Tv, radio and in the press is getting on my wick.Tone it down a bit, please. It's just a European competition.

I know I'll be accused of misogyny, but I am not a woman-hater. The women's game just doesn't interest me, and I can't pretend it does.

Am I on my own here?
I put forward.....1966

Noticed on itv local news they interviewed a City player and I noticed under her name said England player, then they interviewed a rag player and it said England and rag team. Little things like that fuck me right off.

If you were of a certain generation you would not swear in front of women and children it’s just a manners thing with us older cunts
My Dad always told me not to swear in front of my Mum. The problem was, her being half-Irish, I learned them all from her!

To men it feels like manners. To women it feels like paternalistic nonsense.
I agree. I can fuck and **** in front of women these days, but not kids. At a family do, I said ‘fucking’ in front of an eight year old by mistake. When I apologised, his mum said: “Don’t be silly, he's eight years old and well aware of the word.”
Times change.

any city womens fans, have any info on why she left us,or was it the manager.
She had the injury, didn't get back to previous form and I suspect that the manager thought there were better options with which Chloe clearly didn't agree and I wouldn't be surprised that 'words were spoken in haste'. Probably one of the reasons why GT got the boot before other players took humpage.

My point, really, would be that it's quite variable. As are so many things these days.
My daughter-in-law is forty-four. She's no shrinking violet. She grew on quite a tough council estate — the kind of place where, as a teenager, if she was walking home at about nine or ten o’clock, she was regularly reprimanded by lads of north African descent (but born in France) to get in doors sharpish. It wasn't for her safety, it was because she had no business being outdoors at that time — in their view. That's how it was. She's not making that stuff up. (By the way, their dads would have made no such remark — they didn't consider it their business to “police” the social behaviour of the women/girls on the estate).
She was determined to get out, and she did.
She does not speak with a “posh” or put-on accent — not a bit of it — but she speaks very correctly. I've never heard her swear in front of her daughter, nor in front of me. And I'm certain that she would be jarred if I swore in front of her daughter (who has now as a ten-year-old heard every word in the book, for sure, at school and on the streets around us), and I think she'd be a bit jarred if I did it too much in front of her. So I take my tone from her when I'm in their house (which is pretty often, since I live in an adjoining flat!)

It's horses for courses. People are different.

Super sub init. Like that run Dzeko had at the start of the 12/13 season, or like how Pep used Foden at the end of the 22/23 season. Hemp and James did their jobs for 60 mins, then Kelly and Agyemang got thrown on to mess things up. And it worked three times in a row.

Yeah I agree, it's irritating. She took the last penalty on Sunday, and took it well. The other penalties that went in were every bit as important. And the work of the defence right the way through that match was every bit as important as anything anyone up front did.
Over the tournament, Agyemang was decisive at certain junctures, Hampton was absolutely decisive. And as for Lucy Bronze, well she's just an SAS commando. Not forgetting our own Lauren, who did sterling work on the wing.
I like Kelly, but she just seems to have become this poster girl overnight. It'll calm down, I suppose. I hope.

I guess my initial comment was based on I received a few texts from folk asking me if I had heard what she said? But no one actually told me what she said.......
So I was imagining she maybe made some kind of political rant slagging off the Prime Minister or Farage or Trump or even a great dig at Sir Joseph of Barton! (now that would have been something to see!)
Instead, I discover she "simply" said the F word.........
Truly, truly disappointed...

A little story which you may like. The actress Thandiwe Newton went to the theatre with her daughter (about fifteen or sixteen, I think). It so happens that Boris Johnson was sat in the front row. Johnson was still PM at the time. The daughter spotted him, got up, went over, said something to him, and then calmly returned to her seat. Of course, Thandiwe, all agog, asked her “What did you say, what did you say?!” Still calm, the daughter said, “I just told him he was a ****.”

Is that the Nepo kid that's being pushed into TV series and films because of who her parents are...

Sounds about right.

Whatever you think of a politician, I wouldn't want my teenager telling them they are a "****" in public at the theatre. The guy was just enjoying a night out. It makes the child and parents look low class but that's my opinion. Write him a letter and tell him or something. :)

Back to the topic at hand, I received my Lionesses Home top yesterday. I was hesitant when it first debuted online but I saw the women wearing it on television and quite liked it, much like what we often think of many City shirts. They look rubbish online but in person or on television in the players they look much better.

I am surprisingly made up with it. It is really lovely in person.

Completely agree. I'd be embarrassed if my kid did that, but we are talking about a kid that's most likely been taught they can get away with anything because of who their parents are.

Re: the shirt - my daughter's had hers a few weeks and it is really nice. I've ordered one for my wife as well, should hopefully come this next week
