Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

Julien Laurens is a PSG and Arsenal supporter. He's been very critical of Pep and Manchester City since Haaland's decision to "stay humble" for Arteta. I listen to him every Monday on RMC French radio on the show "Charlie's Angels" from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

He knows nothing, he has no information, and seeing a rival like City strengthen is his last wish, as much as any Arsenal supporter would have!
I watched a clip from the sky sports app where ‘experts’ discussed who would get the best benefit from signing Donarumma. Three teams touted - rags, Chelsea and ourselves.

Steve Sidwell stated that his signing would elevate Chelsea to being right in the mix for the title.

Someone else said he’d be a big boost to the rags with the other signings they’ve made.

No mention of City.

The Laurens character has always been a negative little twat about City so no surprise really. The fact he’s ’not good’ with his feet or on crosses is only a problem for City, the fact he’s great at keeping the ball out of the net is neither here nor there.

It’s like the mixed opinions on here - my personal initial feeling was that Eddie seeing out his contract with Trafford getting a gentle introduction to the club and a target of him being no.1 next season seemed a good plan.

However, if Eddie wants out now and the deal is there signing a keeper of this calibre is a no brainer.

We just need to tweak our style to accommodate.

This just doesn't make any sense, although you could argue our transfer policy for three years hasn't!

I thought we would be addressing the balance of the squad this summer and bringing in players who are more physical, better in transition, quicker to the second ball, we haven't we've gone with type, so ok fair enough… then why bring in a keeper whos absolutely dreadful with his feet.

It just doesn't seem to be the right fit for the way we continue to want to play.

Or maybe its just been forced on us, as Eddies found his move.
If it happens, it wasn't forced on us. We wanted it.

Donnarumma has been underwhelming in the league last season and fantastic in the Champsions League. He's been great in the league the season before, so could be a blip in form.

Anyone with eyes can tell he's the best in the world going long.
No whatever the various merits when Ederson goes long he's better than anyone by far, as his assits show.

I'm no stat expert, nor have I seen a lot of Donnarumma, nor would I question Pep or Vianna if this is all true.However can ayone explain what I'm missing with the charts.

I haven't come across these terms before, but taking a stab at it:
Ederson's high long % and low short% means he's going much longer with his distribution than the other keepers. Ederson has the lowest save percentage. All that fits with what we know: Ederson is very good at distribution but not such a great shot stopper. The PSxG-GA is some kind of measure of expected goals against vs goals against? I would think that the largest figure would be the best, i.e. a measure of how effective a keeper was at keeping out goal attempts. I can't explain why Donnarumma would be so bad. Perhaps it reflects on PSG's dominance in games. You could make long winded attempts at rationalising it but given I don't know for sure what the acronyms mean, I won't bother. You should try.

He’s the 2nd best “pure” goalkeeper on the planet imo. Only Courtois is better.

If the 2nd best player on the planet in any position becomes available, as a club at the top table, with aspirations to return to winning PLs and CLs you don’t fuck about, you get him signed.

Trafford would’ve been in a battle for the No1 spot so this changes fuck all for him he’ll just have to be a big boy and crack the fuck on.
Your best post ever :)

Exactly this! When anyone who dislikes us pretends to have a "genuine" concern for us about anything we may be doing I become even more convinced we are doing the right thing. Fucking disingenuous pricks.

Applying the converse logic why are Champions League winners letting him go if he is that good?
The facts are the facts. He's won a Euro with Italy. He's won the CL and a quadruple. He's won multiple Yashin Awards as the world's best keeper. He became a starter at AC Milan as a 16 year old. Did you watch him in the knockout rounds of the CL v Arsenal and Liverpool? I could not give 2 f@#ks what PSG are doing...

so far its 99.9% clear he will leave PSG, and loan aint an option as he has 11 months left on his contract. PSG want to get some fee at least now.
honestly only three clubs than can pull this off and may need a top keeper. (assuming Ederson off)
us, Chelsea and rags.

Barca, Real, Atletico, Bayern, has good keepers already, Italian clubs wont afford Donnarumma salary, Liverpool is ok GK wise, Arsenal too. no one else left apart from Saudis but he aint going there at age 26 yet.

So let me get this right...

Donnarumma:
- can't kick a football to save his life;
- can't collect crosses or command the penalty area;
- has shit distribution;
- doesn't fit our system because some people on here know what Pep is thinking and know more than him;
- negates the point of the signings we've made;
- will ruin Trafford's career;
- is weak on the line;
- can't play as a sweeper(!);
- being let go by PSG because Enrique has found him out, and Pep can't see it;
- will disrupt the continuity that we would get if we kept Ederson.

Bloody hell, we are FUCKED I tell you, in fact ROYALLY SHAFTED, if we go on to buy this atrocious multiple trophy-winning goalkeeper. What have we come to!
Funny how people here slate posters who advocate bringing in new players with, "Pep and the club know better than you!"

However, if it's a player they have an affinity for, that Pep and Viana seem to have an interest in acquiring, it's completely the opposite, "It will be a mistake to bring him in! What about another player's feelings?"

You can't have it both ways. Your argument is either Pep and Viana know players and what they want or it's not that.
