The ticket distribution system we have is the envy of every other club. People with the most points get priority.No surprise to me whatsoever with such an antiquated criteria system.
Those top pointers (myself included)
have been going for so long that they can now pick and choose their fixtures and still be eligible for a ticket for the Old Trafford derby
Liverpool's system for the CL is far fairer and their demand is higher
Meanwhile, the Monaco game is less than a fortnight away and the vast majority of the City fanbase are still not eligible

I would make some tweaks to the points system though; reintroduce getting points for each game attended, limit the time period your points covers to a rolling 5 or 6 years, and introduce a small % of tickets which need to be collected in destination. The last suggestion would not be needed for games where names are printed on tickets and an ID check takes place - ie Italy.
I'd also like to see some transparency from the club to say x number of tickets went to points, hospitality, staff, OSC etc.
Gauging the level of interest is inherently difficult and if they had dropped it too quickly and people had missed out then there would be complaints. They reacted and have dropped it quickly to give people as much time as they can.
I read your post as a criticism of the club for not opening up the criteria quicker and advocating for the system that Liverpool use. Having spoken to a couple of Liverpool fans that try to go home and away they both said ours is a better and fairer distribution system. Asking the club to select a random game that you needed to have attended seems like a strange process to me. Someone goes to every game for two years but misses that particular one can't get a semi final ticket because someone else attended one game in two years but it happened to be the one the club chose? Everton have a rolling system which still recognises loyalty but doesn't discriminate against younger supporters.
City's current system is great for rewarding those fans who attended York,.but not so good for anyone who was born after 1998.

Seems as though we both agree the points system could do with some minor tweaks, but I just don't think we need to reinvent the wheel on distribution (priority should be based on points in my opinion).

Those numbers are missing a big chunk of info in terms of the League Phase where each of the 36 clubs receives €18.62m simply for qualifying.Each team that reaches the final of the Champions League will receive €18.5million, with the winners gaining an additional €6.5million. That is not the complete amount a club can receive, though.
Clubs are also awarded the following in the run-up to the final of the competition:
- Finish in the top of the League Phase: €2 million each
- Finished between ninth and 16th: €1 million each
- Knockout round play-offs: €1m per club
- Round of 16: €11m per club
- Quarter-finals: €12.5m per club
- Semi-finals: €15m per club

We definitely didn't all sort on zero points because there was still some sort of pecking order, whereby those fans who'd been travelling away throughout the dark days were top of the pile.
I genuinely can't remember and it's not even a criticism of the club because I attended all those games and subsequently benefited when the new system was announced

There is then prize money of €2.1m for every win and €700k for every draw. And there is money distributed based on final position in the league table starting at €275k for 36th place. The team finishing top of the League Phase is going to earn a lot more than €2m when the money for winning and drawing games is added to that. Likewise with the teams finishing in the top 16.

Note that Liverpool received more than Villa despite going out of the competition a round earlier - that’s a consequence of having a much better coefficient.
This season the TV money available to the English clubs (a total of around €375m - same as last year) will be diluted considerably by the pot having to be split six ways.
