No surprise to me whatsoever with such an antiquated criteria system.

Those top pointers (myself included)
have been going for so long that they can now pick and choose their fixtures and still be eligible for a ticket for the Old Trafford derby

Liverpool's system for the CL is far fairer and their demand is higher


Meanwhile, the Monaco game is less than a fortnight away and the vast majority of the City fanbase are still not eligible
It's not the easiest to get to either

The ticket distribution system we have is the envy of every other club. People with the most points get priority.

I would make some tweaks to the points system though; reintroduce getting points for each game attended, limit the time period your points covers to a rolling 5 or 6 years, and introduce a small % of tickets which need to be collected in destination. The last suggestion would not be needed for games where names are printed on tickets and an ID check takes place - ie Italy.

I'd also like to see some transparency from the club to say x number of tickets went to points, hospitality, staff, OSC etc.

Gauging the level of interest is inherently difficult and if they had dropped it too quickly and people had missed out then there would be complaints. They reacted and have dropped it quickly to give people as much time as they can.

Not ideal for most but it cuts down on costs if you're on a tight budget.

I get your point, but as a pedantic git I'll just mention that the points system was implemented round about the time we moved from Maine Road so attending the game at Bootham Crescent wouldn't generate any points.

Those numbers are missing a big chunk of info in terms of the League Phase where each of the 36 clubs receives €18.62m simply for qualifying.
There is then prize money of €2.1m for every win and €700k for every draw. And there is money distributed based on final position in the league table starting at €275k for 36th place. The team finishing top of the League Phase is going to earn a lot more than €2m when the money for winning and drawing games is added to that. Likewise with the teams finishing in the top 16.

We definitely didn't all sort on zero points because there was still some sort of pecking order, whereby those fans who'd been travelling away throughout the dark days were top of the pile.

I genuinely can't remember and it's not even a criticism of the club because I attended all those games and subsequently benefited when the new system was announced

A lot of the bigger clubs got caught out last year, taking the first stage a little too easy.
The money for CWC is staggering and the bigger teams need to be in it.
I can see us trying to finish as high as possible in the CL group stages and build up enough points in order to overtake either liverpool or arsenal in the CWC rankings.
After last seasons poor results, we may need to win one of the next CL's in order to qualify for the next CWC

Yeah I think that was the case until around the Joe Royle era when the demand far exceeded the supply, particularly for those small grounds in the third tier.

I seem to recall some kind of priority system then added (regular season ticket holders who've attended 5 away games etc)

Also I've just found a letter from City advising me that everyone's points would be doubled for the 03/04 season

However I can't remember how or from what starting date those points had been allocated

The pool of money is then split between that country’s teams following the conclusion of the competition. Last season’s shares for the English clubs were:
Arsenal €118m
Liverpool €98m
Villa €84m
City €76m
Note that Liverpool received more than Villa despite going out of the competition a round earlier - that’s a consequence of having a much better coefficient.
This season the TV money available to the English clubs (a total of around €375m - same as last year) will be diluted considerably by the pot having to be split six ways.

I think when we renewed our season ticket when we moved to the Etihad we got 1500 pts pretty sure that's when pts system started not 100% though.

I think Loyalty Points started in 2001, from memory.
