ID cards.

That's not the point I'm making. If people are upset about this then why would they willingly divulge private information about themselves on the internet? Privacy is now uncared for by many people.
That is by personal choice though, not enforced.

Also when we are all told it's £100 to get your ID and they put a time limit on its validity and further payments for new ones every 5 or 10 years, it will be just another con on the public masked as protecting us.

Introduce a basic plastic ID card with name, D.OB. photo I aint arsed, any chipped or biometric ones I have a passporot for that already

Genuine question. Is there any evidence that countries with compulsory IDs have lower illegal immigration, benefit fraud or tax fraud? I've looked and I couldn't find any concrete evidence for their claimed benefits tbh. The only example I could find is that electronic IDs reduced some admin costs in Estonia. And other than that, the benefits were limited to very specific circumstances. Cracking down on illegal workers, for example, still relies on workplace inspections more than ID cards.

Do Id cards help France with illegal immigrants or stopping them?

It doesn’t seem to have done anything to stop huge amounts of people entering France illegally or working illegally

It stops people using public services ie unless they’re entitled to it and it’s often cited as the reason so many asylum seekers try to cross the channel to the UK instead of remaining in France.

The thing is we all know the solution to the asylum crisis is not simple and can’t be done overnight. It’s going to be a really long process of hiring more and more home office workers and magistrates to process claims quicker, form diplomatic partnerships with neighbouring countries and build infrastructure to house people waiting for claims so they aren’t in hotels.

But Labour are doing all of that, and the public is so impatient Reform (despite their zero solutions to the crisis) are getting more support so the government have to do something that makes people feel like more is happening by quicker.

YouGovs last polls on this show about 55-60% support it and only 10% are strongly opposed, so it’s (despite the response on here) broadly popular with the general public, the last 25 years has seen technology render most of the arguments against them moot because we’re giving up all the personal information anyway.

Whats the problem proving who you are? Don’t want ID card carry your passport on you, don’t have a passport carry your driving licence, don’t have one of them get an ID card. How many people just click cookies on the internet etc if your worried about people getting your information I’m sorry to inform you they already have it, they know you like dog porn and shopping at Primark.

That's what's thrown at him all the time, totally ignoring the 99% of stuff he's been proven correct on.

True mate

Fred West was a decent builder, but the ol' bodies in the garden/basement/walls is used against him

Just not right is it?

Agree if Farage came up with it his sycophants would lap it up. Just seems like another load of bollocks though in reality. It’s not going to stop illegal immigrants coming in and it’s not going to do anything to stop the estimated 100k slave workes in this country.

Seems like another move towards total control of the population. Labour continue to worry about reform and trying to compete with them on something they’ll never beat them on. More alienation of their core voters and their policies remain pretty unclear in general.

I can't get my head around people arguing its un-British who also moan when they have to take 2 utility bills in their name to the Post Office to obtain a small loan yet those same people spill loads of personal info to Pornhub so they can watch mucky movies - I mean I know I trust the DVLA with my data ref driving more than I would some overseas dodgy platform.

I imagine you make it compulsory to produce the ID and log it into the company system. No ID, no work. If an Employer wants to bypass this they can, but you will be at risk of a substantial fine. It simplifies the process.

I did some digging and I guess it goes along with these measures.

But they’re supposed to check now, that a person has the right to work here. An undocumented ‘illegal’ working for £1.25 an hour will still be a tempter for some (and we’ll all be working for that, once Nigel has thrown them all out)…

Seems tone deaf to me. Post covid we live in a very sceptical world, now even questioning paracetamol for fucks sake. The idea in that environment, you suggest ID cards is bonkers

Yeah, but they don't know that I like watching dog porn while shopping at Primark.......do they?
